Ed, this was a new station with new pumps. The pump cut off at $100, tank not full, but close. I went in and asked and was told that was the way it was set up.

Yesterday a group of retirees from our church went on a field trip to Kiawah Island's 5 Star Hotel, The Sanctuary. I chose to ride on the Church Bus to save 3 gallons of gas. At $4/gallon, that move saved me enough to buy a $10 dessert and a $3 cup of coffee. The "Jasmine Porch Hamburger with Sweet potato french fries" was only $16. Not a place you'd eat at every day. With tax and a built-in 20% service charge, $37. is a bit much for a burger,fries, a tiny dessert and an even tinier cup of Joe. Call me Cheap!

I used to save my Bird for a special occasion. Now it's my daily driver. Why keep it locked up if it's so much fun to drive? I bought it to enjoy, not for my kids to enjoy after I'm gone! The cost of fuel is high, regardless of what you drive; the difference for premium is aggravating, but it's really only a few bucks per tank, so I cringe, but go ahead and pump it. I thought about trading in my long-since-paid-for backup car (1997 Expedition) to get better mileage, but when I figured out how much gas I can buy for the $30,000 price tag of a hybrid, what the hell, keep on driving what I've got....

I used to save my Bird for a special occasion. Now it's my daily driver. Why keep it locked up if it's so much fun to drive? I bought it to enjoy, not for my kids to enjoy after I'm gone! NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Americans drove just below 935 billion vehicle miles in 2008 as of April 30, the lowest total since 2003's figure of 899 billion miles, according to the monthly Travel Trends report from the U.S. Federal Highway Administration. In April, Americans drove 246 billion miles, down 1.8% from 250 billion in the year-ago period. Meanwhile, the U.S. average retail price for a gallon of gasoline edged down a penny to $4.07 a gallon in the last day, but remaining close to the record level of $4.08 a gallon, according to the Daily Fuel Gauge Report from AAA.

The big talk now is oil and gas exploration off the coast of Florida.I have mixed feeling on this for two reasons.First naturally is the coast line for oil spills and the beauty of NOT seeing oil derricks.The second is if they do drill is the oil going to stay in the USA or be exported for profit???
Remember the gas lines "There will not be a gas shortage with the Alaska Pipeline" I think the same tune is being played again

Ed, I sure hope that doesn't happen. It doesn't matter how much they drill or where they drill the same companys that are ripping us off now are the ones that will be ripping us off after the new wells are drilled. It won't make any difference at all in the price of oil.

Heck you got it easy. Down here they change the pricing evrytime you drive by them. And no that's no an exageration. A CircleK(Shell) was 3.96 when I went out, on the way home it was 3.97. Headed out later in the afternoon 3.99. Also got a HESS down here, where it's usually the cheapest. Now they don't even post the price on their large sign anymore. You get "Guess at Hess", a new common language around here. AND, yep it goes on. Rule of thumb was always that whatever the lowest octane was, you could count on the next grades, up a dime more each. No so any longer. It's all over the place.
Maybe your inspectors could use a paid working vacation in Florida. It would be nice to see inspector's, with ticket's in hand, stinging our stations.

Sun -Sentinal S.Fl. newspaper had an article today about Hi-Test ,It"s way down as people are using regular as it comes out .40 cheaper at some stations.Reported some stations are filling regular every couple of days and Hi-Test every 2-3 wks.
Also reported town of Coral Springs town heads will vote on letting gas signs be posted so people can see them from the road.To post them now is a code violation.

The price of fuel sure isn't slowing down the traffic here. Last Saturday I drove to Gray Summit, MO, a distance of about 200 miles on I-44 and it was bumper-to-bumper trucks, RVs, trucks pulling every kind of trailer there is, SUVs, convertibles, vans full of kids, you name it. And they were all driving fast, too.
