Well the way this top in moving along it not going to take much longer. I talked to Brad on the phone yesterday and he said as soon as he gets it he's going to get it to me in Indiana, only about a hour drive from where he's getting it it Joliet, Ill. And I just talked to John ( JAB02LHS ) in Clevland and we're going to meet in Toledo, Ohio off the Turnpike on Saturday afternoon. So it looks like I'm going to get the top tommarow and have to sit on it for a couple days. Leroy
Just switched the top with Jerry Best in Lincoln, IL. ...we had a wonderful conversation. Jerry is one of those guys who puts you in a good mood just being around him.
Great post Ray! Had you and Jerry met prior to the Relay?
Thanks for the pics, seeing old friends on a mission like this puts a smile on my face every time!!
Just switched the top with Jerry Best in Lincoln, IL. The weather here today is spectacular, and the hardtop switch went without a hitch. Although he's a visitor in my state, he insisted on buying breakfast. Other than Broom Hilda bellowing in the background, we had a wonderful conversation. Jerry is one of those guys who puts you in a good mood just being around him. We talked about getting together again in September at the Thunderbird Rendezvous in my hometown. I really hope we do. After about an hour together, Jerry headed back to Iowa and I headed home. I'm off to Joliet in the morning to meet up with Brad, who will then take the top on to Indiana. Here are a few pics from this morning:
WOW Ray, post 225 above, the 2nd picture really shows the difference in the original hood scoop from the 50's (on your car) and todays hood scoop. Love those side by sides. I think that's a first here on TBN
I love seeing the photos. I kinda feel like a Mom that has sent her kid off to venture throughout the country, since this relay started here in SLC. It's pretty cool seeing it's progress.
WOW!!!
This is really moving at an incredible pace right now.
Thanks so much Karen. How did the stips work out for you? I really appreciate your taking the time to get this done. Maybe you should talk to Charles in Las Vegas about that top. His is a Whisper White also. Seeing and hearing how well he takes care of his car I'll bet the top is in beautiful condition.
By the way Charles, I was in shock when I learned you had that for sale before I bought mine and you were still nice enough to take mine a third of the way accross the country. I can't express how much I appreciate that.
Jerry, did you get any sleep? The way you jumped into this on such short notice and doing what ever was necessary to get that leg accomplished was fantastic. Your the Best. That's right you are the Best aren't you.
Thank you Ray. You also jumped in at the last minute because of a route change. No questions asked, just get er done.
I envy my top. Seeing parts of the country I have never been to and meeting some fantastic people.
Get ready Brad and Leroy. This top is moving very quickly.
I will try to update my list tonight. That's funny the top is moving quicker than I can update the list.
OK.....,.,.,. Yes, I'm finally home. 688 miles, but fun and love and storms and memories!!! wow... The Squidmobile made it and hopefully Karen and Ray survived as well. It was super super super meeting up with MoBird and Ray the Herd....! Karen, you're wonderful and it was extremely enjoyable lunching and talking with you. Must do it again!!!! Our cars probably took the people at Machen?s Ford by surprise,... but it was good PR and training for them. Hopefully everything else this week will work out for you.
Ray,... what can I say. This is exactly how Martin and Lewis started out, isn't it???? Your Great,... and the Bloominton Beer Nuts, Cd's and Illinois paraphenalia are much appreciated..... The Cd's I'll listen to later tonight, but I know they're already special. Thought I'd include some pic's showing the various Birds and the "turning pale pink top, (I dunno what happened)"
Illinois/Iowa/Minn/Wis/Indiana etc peoples,... let's look forward to Ray's event, (or whomever's) coming up in September>>>>>> I plan on going back to Bloooooomindales,... (no,... Bloomington) for a very exciting Bird event. Maybe Ray would like to enlighten us with what he knows......
Pay attention Karen (MOBIRD)!!
You don't see these anymore on what used to be the Indiana Toll Road since our Governor leased it to Spain for 75 years. They make the Troopers pay Tolls just like anyone else. I-65 is where you have to watch out for these baby's. I talked to Brad tonight and we're planing on meeting at a new Cabella's about 3 miles across the Ind./ Ill, boarder in Indiana off the Indianapolis Blvd. Exit South on 80/94, then I'm going to meet up with John ( JAB02LHS ) Saturday in Toledo, Ohio.
