Who has the K&n and who has the True Rev?Do you Like it?
Re: Who has the K&n and who has the True Rev?Do you Like it?
My question is, how do these filters affect the gas mileage? I have a 2004 Bird with 12000 miles on it and the stock air filter. The only modification is the exhuast system, I don't have any resinators. I recently took a 600 mile trip and checked my gas milage and found I was getting 25.8 MPG traveling at 75 MPH @ about 2100 RPM.

I just took the K&N cone filter off my Monte Carlo and put the stock air box back on. I took the mass air flow sensor off and the screen was covered with small bug, grass, and other trash. I will not be putting the K&N filter back on it. Plus it seems likes it is running better with stock filter. It seemed to want to bog down when you would get on the gas with K&N filter. Maybe to much air?
I know it has become a big topic but......Is the K&N worth the Extra Money..or does the True Rev perform the same???
Thanks!
--> some great info on this thread - as always!
I installed the K&N about a month ago, and have not done any dyno testing, but must say, the driving experience just seems better. Feels like more pick up, and yes, it sounds MUCH better, the growl just sounds great.

Leroy, I've got Borla's and a CAI on my car...when we do the Hardtop exchange take my car for a ride and take a look...once I heard it on someone elses car I HAD to have it.

I like my K&N, I have the chrome looking one. I like the sounds it makes :). After I installed it I went on a trip to KY, I drove roughly 500 miles on a tank of gas...roughly 27mpg.
BTW... at 65 I'm around 2000 rpm, thats normal right?

I have the CAI from Kurtz Kustoms on my bird and on my F150.
I do get about 1 mpg better on my truck, but never checked the TBird, its not used regularly, but the pickup seems better and the sound is really great. The price is a lot cheaper for basically the same system.

Ditto that. I saw a 1MPG improvement in my bird after install of Tru Rev.

Gotta love that American Ride
I have the K & N system in my '05 and I like the sound from 2,000 up to 5,000 rpm but it does sound a bit whooshy after that. I try to clean and oil the filter about every 3,000 miles to keep the filtration at maximum.
That said, I had a '95 Mustang GT that I could not afford a CAI for at the time so I took a one inch round drill bit and routed out the air box on both sides and the top to allow more air flow. The flowmasters I had on the car were allowing more exhaust to flow out but there wasn't enough air coming in on the front end to make a difference. I think the increases in response on the 5.0 Mustang were about the same as I got with the K & N/MagnaFlow cat-back combination I have on the 'Bird.
Rick: I'm curious as to how much this made any improvements in performance, as to drilling holes in the air box. Where exactly did you make these holes, and was there any more debris and/or dirt that it was "sucking in", with these open holes??
Re: Who has the K&n and who has the True Rev?Do you Like it?
Just completed installing the borla exhaust and K&N cai and the performance difference is quite good. I have a K&N filter charger on my 1996 Ford Splash and have never had a problem as far the MAF was concerned. I am very satisfied with K&N products.
