    Re: OUCH ! ! !

....well...there is a seam in the door sill, so I'm guessing it's doable, Lawrence. After my experience, I feel your frustration, Gordon. Maybe we should be taking our damaged 'Birds to restoration shops instead of body shops to benefit from implied knowledge, workmanship, and interest. P.S my mom was from Wigan....I was born in Yorkshire.

      Hi there,

Martin, I was born and raised in Lancashire but very close to the Yorkshire border near Skipton. My dad is from Halifax, Yorks.

The seperate rear fender panel is ordered along with the plastic rear bumper panel. Should be ready sometime next week.

      All the best, Gordon.

        Re: OUCH ! ! !

        Hi there,

I would like to say a big THANKS to Bronzebird, Rick. A couple days ago he told me about the 'Diminished Value Law' used in Georgia when a car is involved in a wreck and damage occurs.

I spoke directly with the other guy's insurance adjuster and asked how much should we expext to receive under this law. Well, in this case, - no quibbling or trying to wriggle out of anything. They will be paying us....

        $750.00 in compensation.

I realize that this incident will show on any future car report but that won't bother us too much. We bought this car to drive and enjoy, not as an investment. I just hope the body shop does a good job on making the car right again.

This just goes to show that if I hadn't asked, the insurance company would have kept it quiet. I think more folks need to know about this ruling.
        Thanks again, Rick.

        All the best, Gordon.

          Gordon:

Glad it worked out okay. Someday you may want to sell the car and the accident will pop up on a CARFAX report whether you got your $750 or not.

It is always good to have before and after pictures of the car in that case. Sounds like there was no damage to the rear end other than the fender and bumper but photos that show there was no drive train damage (ie: a rear wheel pushed in), would help illustrate that the car wasn't close to being totaled.

            Re: OUCH ! ! !

            Hi there,

Just another quick up-date on the progress of our 2003 black having body repairs done.

Ok, I had a call yesterday saying the car was ready for picking up. I was really glad to hear this because now it's been around 3 weeks in the shop and I really need FLYAWAY for this weekend. I have a surprise trip planned for Rachel and it just would not be the same in our regular car.

Anyway, before the check from the other guy's insurance was signed I wanted to see the car and give it a good looking over. On first impressions it looked really well done, a good color match and they had polished the car as well. All was good until I noticed two things:

            1) The car took the hit on the passenger side rear fender. They have replaced the whole panel and refinished it but then they went and placed the original gas cap cover on, still with chips and scratches on it. I can't understand why they would let that happen. The guy came out with a cloth and some polish and tried to rub it away. No chance.

            2) Rachel noticed a slight rip or loose area on the soft top where the corner was coming away. I'm sure this area had been caught when they were either taking off the old panel or putting on the new one. They said this was fixable but again, they should have noticed that before handing the car back.

The manager there was a little embarrased by this and I'm sure someone had their wrists slapped for letting it slip through in that state. He promised they would have it ready for this coming weekend so I'm just waiting to see.

It did look good apart from that. It was so hard to leave it behind again when I had been all ready for taking it home.

I'll let you know how it goes. Gordon.
