When did manufacturers begin the use of clearcoat? Does anyone know whether my 1975 would have clearcoat on the paint and wheels?

Re: Clearcoat Paint Question
According to my source (my brother-in-law who worked at the Ford plant here in Norfolk), Ford's clearcoat was first introduced in their 1983 model cars & trucks. I do know that my 1978 did not have it, which was one of the reasons their metallic paints did not weather well.sigpic

Re: Clearcoat Paint Question
Gene, the best way to tell if you have clear coat is to clean a small area with any cleaner wax or compound. If you see color on the rag then it is not clear coat.Last edited by PaBlkBrd; Jun 24, 2008, 07:04 PM.Mike & Jana
