heh yeah. i'm really at a loss here. i replced it with a new gauge, it worked and showed my half a tank of gas. i drove around for 5 mins, turned off the car, then the next time i started it nothing. i filled it up with gas just to make sure, and the needle doesn't move.
the other gauges work, so there is power going to them via the regulator, but not sure what to do now. grrrr.
Mike, sounds like you might have a loose ground or a frayed wire somewhere along that line. Have you put a meter on the lines to check for continuity? Just a thought. I had a lot of re-wiring that had to be done when I restored my MGB.

Mike, the problem may be in your float. Remove the wire from the sending unit in the top of the tank (should be accessible through the floor of the trunk). Touch the wire to metal (shouldn't be hard to find metal on a 1965), have someone turn the ignition to the on position. If the gauge goes to full then the problem is in the float. My 1957 had the same problem and the float had a small hole in it and filled up with gas. Making the float too heavy to rise with the level of gas. Hope this helps.
