  • End of Fluid Leak Saga

I hope I'm not speaking too soon but I just got my bird back from the dealer (dropped off last Thursday). An overnight pressure test to the coolant system produced the fluid leak which the mechanic says is coolant (he always has said so, it was the "service advisors" that said oil) and after tasting it he was sure (guess that's why they charge $88/hr. for guys like these). Anyway he started breaking down the car until he came to the water pump and there, behold!, were signs of leaking coolant that had been going on for some period of time (he was nice enough to save the part for me to see). So hopefully that's the end for this problem for me and all of you who have listened patiently...I gave the mechanic a tip and hope that he'll be the one to work on the car in the future (at my request).

Glad they found it Gary. Hope they won't charge you for ALL those hours they spend trying to find it.

I wouldn't let anyone else touch her there. You found a great one. And don't forget to tell him on the Q/T, should he ever leave there, make sure he lets you know.

I am at a loss here, now that Joe Varey is no longer working. His best T-Bird guy flew the coop after Joe left. I just don't trust anyone I don't know working on my cars, for things that I cannot do myself. Our Mustang Club is being sponsered by a dealership over an hour away, I am about to give them a test to update the computer on the NM. (Here's hoping they don't try to sell me a kitchen sink)

Gary...I know this has got to be a big relief for you, especially when the dealership didn't always know the answer. Glad you got to the bottom of the issue (hard to argue with the ol' taste test)!

Do what I do......ask him if he does work on the side. I'd rather give it to a working stiff than a dealership any day.

            Glad it's resolved.

Glad you got it fixed, but what did it cost, and was any of it covered under warranty? I have an extended Ford warranty on my car and I hope if I ever have the same problem I'm covered.

This was the 3rd or 4th time I left the car to repair the leak. It hasn't cost me a penny ($000.00)! The car is still under factory warranty until December so I was pushing to get it done and not be blown off. I'd have to say that I'm happy with the dealer and now I've learned how it works in "dealer land" (the protocol, who to speak too, what mechanic, what to expect for services or not, etc).
This morning I got up and with my coffee went to the garage to check under the car for the leak...not there...today...old habits die hard.
