Hi there,

In my case, I'm not the original owner of our 2003 and I also bought the car from a Mercedes dealers. Because of this, I'm not really expecting a letter from the local Ford dealership.

However, due to all the info that comes through this TBN site, I am in the know about the cops and other retro bird problems as well so if I do ever have the cops problem showing up, I can at least go into the Ford dealership armed with the correct info,(even if I don't have the official letter).

It may be in my case that the previous owner had the cops problem and it may have already been sorted.

Anyways, so far, so good.

Gordon, go to a Ford dealer and get them to pull an OASIS report on your VIN. That will tell you if you are covered.

Hi all, I am the second owner our 04 merlot and Ford must have my information but I did purchase an extended warranty last nov when the factory one expired.

We will see some of you in Savannah on Friday.

question: I got the letter. My 05 has only 5000 miles. Do I wait for something to go wrong? If so what are initial symptoms? Or do I have them do something the next time I take car in for service?

Hi there,

Jim, I was in a similar situation when I took our 2003 in for a service. I knew all 2003's had been given an extension on the warranty for the c.o.p. thing so I asked if they could check it out.

Their answer was a definate no. The policy is, 'if it ain't broke - don't fix it'.

Makes sense really and in the c.o.p. case, I believe it comes on as a gradual rather than a sudden problem. I believe the car starts to run rough and not fire on all the cylinders. Hopefully there would be time to get it into the dealers for a fix before it stopped altogether.

I really don't know, Phil. I haven't had a COPS problem YET, so I don't know what you should do. I'm sure others will chime in here.

The OASIS report that the dealer pulls up will show whether or not you are covered.
