Re: Gotta love those Michelins !!!!

Yeah so speaking of TIRES, I just had to put on a whole new set of tires, I got the Kumho Ecsta LX Platinum brand - $169 a tire...UGH. Plus they had to charge me $171 for alignment and all that junk. I wound up paying $896.11 total with tax. :(

But what happened was I recently noticed my two right tires (front and back) with slashes in them although they were not that deep. On my way home from work yesterday I ran over some black thing and it was SO loud I think that is when my back tire popped. I got home, didn't even look. This morning, still didn't look. IDIOT. Got in my car and began driving to work and I could hear my back rear tire and I'm like YEP. It's flat. So I pulled over, flatter than a pancake. And that's what happened....ended up replacing all of my tires because I am almost at 50K miles already on my 2004 so it makes sense I guess....just not DOLLARS!!!!

          Hi Daniel,

Thanks for the info. That truly is amazing, to get that amount of miles from the one set of tires. I honestly was waiting for some catch in the story, that's why earlier I was thinking it was some kind of puzzle, - I wasn't trying to poke fun at all and I'm sorry if that was taken the wrong way.

Anyway, I guessed your wife might have been working in Dalton but Ringgold is pretty close.

We live in Rocky Face which is between Ringgold and Dalton.

It is true though, if we could all get 130,000 miles from one set, a lot of tire companies would be struggling. A bit like that chewing gum commercial where the flavour lasts so long that they have to force folks to spit it out so they will go and buy another pack.

          All the best, Gordon.

Thanx Ken. We just might take you up on that. My wife's mother is in a hospice care facility in LaGrange, Ga. and we travel there to visit about every other week. Maybe we can arrange something during one of those trips.

Thanx Gordon, no offense taken. I wish I could get more miles out of the tires I use on my '96 Impala SS. I can only manage about 20,000 on those tires....and that's when I behave myself. I will say, I buy all my tires from Tire Rack and always get a better price overall. I have them shipped to a Goodyear shop nearby and they mount and balance them for me at $10.00 a tire. Not bad.

Re: Gotta love those Michelins !!!!

                Hi there,

Daniel, I too have just ordered a set of tires from Tire Rack after someone recommended them on this website.

The set I just got was for our other car, an Infiniti FX where the dealership gave me a range of between 1,200.00 and 1,500.00 per set.

I ended up with a nice set of Yokohama Avids, 18" fitted and balanced for 750.00 exactly.

                I'll certainly use them again.

                Gordon.

Danial, Thanks for the tip on the Fuel Shut-Off Relay reset button. A good thing to know about, I don't remember seeing that in the owners manual, but then I didn't read it cover to cover either. You seem to be very knowledgeable about your cars and take very good care of them. So my question is with 131,000 on your T-Bird are the original shocks still on the car. Usually factory shocks aren't as high quallity as replacements. I have thought of replacing mine with only 13,000 miles, just to get a smoother ride. Leroy

No problem, the Fuel shut off reset button was quite a surprise to me. It's purpose, as I've been told, is to prevent fuel/fire etc. problems in the event of a collision Obviously a heavy enough impact to the underside of the vehicle will also trip it. We still have the original shocks on the car and I have no complaints. My wife does 90% of the driving and has no complaints either. I do like to feel the road somewhat, but still like a smooth ride as well. The originals seem to be performing just fine for now. As I mentioned earlier, I hate taking my vehicles to a dealer for work, as they charge you and arm and a leg. I believe in fixing things myself. When in doubt however, I'll take it to a dealer to diagnose the problem, pay their $35-45, then take it home and perform the work myself.
                    Enjoy your ride,
                    Daniel

If that is the Story..Then that is Truly Amazing...

I would contact Michelin and let them know...They might be interested in sponsoring you some new tread...

Just for the story and publicity !!!

Couldn't really tell you. It was done on an oil change visit by my wife. They stressed to her how urgent it was to have it done, and how it could affect the life of her transmission terribly if not done about every 36,000 miles. I've been to the Chevy dealer where I bought my HHR and their service dept. has prices for every flush you can think of, tranny, power steering, cooling system, fuel lines, toilets...etc...and they are all well over $150.00. They even offer the Royal flush which includes most of the flushes offered for around $550.00. One needs to only realize dealers don't really make much money from selling cars and trucks, they make their big money in the service bay, after you buy them.

No, it just stops showing tenths of a mile, I think. Rick at World Class of Wheels posted a picture of his odo when he hit the 100,000 mark. You should be able to find it with a search, but I am too lazy.
