  • Headroom

Any ideas for creating more headroom, particularly with the hardtop on? I've played with the seat and tried moving the seat up and reclining the back, but my knees almost hit the dash. The passenger seat seems to have a little more room.
I'm 6' 200 lbs and have never had a problem with my head touching the roof of my car before, even in small sports cars. Also, I've konked my head more than once getting in the car . I've learned the backside first approach, which I'm getting used to.

      Thanks, Ed.
      I'm sorry to hear that.
I've had a vette, 300ZX and Triumph and never had this problem before.
      Live and learn, I guess.

        Re: Headroom

Shouldn't be a problem. We have many members that tall or taller and they have learned how to adjust the seat to fit. I'm only 5'11" and about 212 lbs. but I have no trouble except for getting in and out of the car. If you move the seat as far back as it will go the then tilt the front up and the back down you should be able to fit and be comfortable in it.

Total height may not be the problem. Your height from the hips up is what matters. If all else fails, ditch the hardtop.

I have to keep my hair cut short...when it grows out it will touch.

I'm almost as tall but at somewhat of an advantage, as I'm losing my hair!

                  Re: Headroom

Easiest place to grow hair is between the ears and chin, leaves more headroom when top up, more forehead to tan when top down.

I am 6'2" and I found the one combination of seat setting that works. Just like Go-Bird says.

some people don't move the seat all the way back so that you can recline the backrest further....I tend to slouch a bit and I honestly did change the way I wear my hair. The more you drive it the more the seat will wear and the more room you will have

After Judy drives the car, I move the seat forward a bit. Then as Gobird said, I tilt the front up as much as possible, then lower the back down as much as possible. Then I move the seat back until when it hits the area behind the seat. I'm 6 ft. and 160 lbs., I have long legs so my torso is a bit shorter, my head brushes the softtop a little but otherwise a good fit.

                            Re: Headroom

I feel your pain! There was another thread here that said that someone removed the seat adjusting mechanism and bolted the seat to the floor, gaining another 3 inches in headroom!

I'll bet that there is a mechanism that could be put in there that would save some room.

When I get motivated, I will take a look and see what can be done. Just let me hit my head a few more times and that may do it!
