  • I'll be Birdless for a while

Coming home from work on Tuesday the 15th, I was involved in an accident while driving the "Bird". The other driver says he was forced off the intersate highway (I-44) across a concrete medium and into the on ramp lane that I was driving in causing me to rear in him. No one was hurt. The "Bird" was not so lucky. The other driver was given the ticket. He told the highway patrol he had insurance. After I called his insurance carrier, they called me Friday afternoon to tell me that at the time of the accident he had no coverage. So I have to file a claim with my insurance carrier. I called them just before closing time on Friday and I am waiting to hear from them to tell me what to do.
The visiable damage to the "Bird" is to the hood, grille, both panels above and below the grille and maybe both front fenders. Can't get the hood open, so I don't know what other damage was done. I was able to drive the "Bird" home and right now it is in the garage at the house. Lucky the air bag did not deploy.
I checked with the dealer I bought the car from and was told they do not have an auto body shop. Was given the name of two shops.
Will try to post some pictures of the car at a later time.

Roy - I'm sorry to hear about your Bird accident. Like many will say though, it was good you weren't hurt. Paint and new car parts can always be replaced - body parts are something else.

Give your car a hug from us for it's boo boo.

Sorry to hear about this, Roy. I guess it is all of our nightmare to have something like this happen. Having been hit by a driver with no insurance, stolen license plate and a bogus GA license I hope this goes better for you than it did for me.

Good Luck and keep us posted.

Re: I'll be Birdless for a while

          Roy,
I am sorry about your TBird getting damaged, but thank God, no one was hurt.
I can only imagine how you must feel, but I am sure in time when it is repaired, your TBird, will look as good as new.
In your state, if a driver has no insurance, can't you go after him directly, for the damage, as the cops cited him, showing he was at fault?
But then again, if he had no insurance, he most likely does not have the means to pay for the repairs.
I am just glad you are okay.

The Pen Maker, You should contact the Highway Patol that issued the ticket and notify them that the driver was not insured. That's another offence and the Judge should put a Judgement agaist his licence untill the damages are paid for. Leroy
