Re: I'll be Birdless for a while

Roy, as everyone says it is so good that you were not hurt.

We have just acquired our bird and understand the attachment. I graduated from Midwest City HS back in 64 (my wife from Putnam City HS) and we are looking to get back to the City some time this fall for a little road trip. We neither one have been back for many years. Hopefully you will have your bird back and running and maybe we can make contact.

Again glad to hear you are ok.

          Mike

I'm SO sorry your Baby was damaged, Roy! I know it just makes you sick...it does me, too

I hope you've been checked out by a physician. Bet your neck is pretty stiff.

Re: I'll be Birdless for a while

No stiff neck. Just a sad heart. Had the Bird towed to a body shop Thursday the 24th.
They called me that afternoon and asked me to come down and look at it. When I got there, what a site. Most of the front end was off the car. No fenders, hood, grille, lights, front bumper panels, etc. The price was $7,521.58 and they were still removing damaged items. The estimate is marked "Estimate is open." The appraiser's estimate was for $5,144.73 less the $1,000.00 deductible with the remarks "Vehicle may have hidden damage." This morning I called the claims advisor and asked why there was a deductible when the other driver was at fault. I didn't agree with her answer and stated I had a letter from the other driver's insurance company saying at the time of the accident he had no coverage. The advisor changed her tune by asking for me to fax her that letter. I should be getting reimbursed for the deductible. We shall see. In today's mail was a check for $4,144.73. I also called the body shop and asked if they had received a copy of the appraiser's estimate and she said "NO" So I faxed her a copy. She said she would start ordering replacement parts today. That's the latest so far. Will keep you all posted.

We probably need Stan to weigh in on this but if the person who hit you did not have insurance then your car will be covered by your collision and the deductable you have selected (obviously $1000.) for collision will apply. If you have under-insured/un-insured coverage then your insurance will still cover your damage but the deductable for under-insured / un-insured is usually $250.

Pen Maker, I wouldn't sign that check untill the car is done and you're satisfied with the repairs. The appaiser's estimate is alot lower than the body shop's, be careful, signing that check might release the insurance company of any further liability and you might get stuck paying alot more than the $1000.00 deductabe. Penmaker, I'm also curious as to how it's going too. Especially since the damage to your car is almost identical to the Sandmans. How has your insurance company handled it so far? Leroy

                                Pen Maker:

Is Oklahoma a no fault state? Do you have uninsured motorist coverage? If so, your insurance should cover the damage as if they were insuring the other driver with no negative effects on your future premiums or coverage. From what you are indicating, I'm guessing that is not the case, however.

I'm very sorry to hear of this incident and the damage to your car. As others have indicated, fortunately there was no injury involved. The potential for this happening is one of my worst nightmares. It makes the incident that happened to me while at the ITC convention in Nashville seem trivial, although it had me very upset. While driving on I-40, the only time the whole week I didn't have the front cover on, a passing truck pulling an empty equipment trailer passed us at a high rate of speed, throwing off quarter size stones that pelted the front of the car. When I stopped to check it out, there were 12-15 white marks on the front, valence, bumper, hood and fenders. I was furious and sick at the same time. Fortunately, I could "polish off" all but a few, and only 2-3 actually chipped the paint. 2 or 3 others chipped the clear coat. I was really frosted-it ruined a nice time for me. But it doesn't hold a candle to what happened to you. Have some comfort in knowing that most reptutable body shops do a good job of making a car like new again. And check on the no fault/uninsured motorist coverage. And as someone else mentioned, the HP should be made aware of the no insurance situation-that could be in your favor from a recovery standpoint as well.

                                Take care.
