  • How hard are hard tops to find?

That title sounds like a riddle or something, but anyway...

Whichever T we eventually choose, be it the VMG or a DSB, we know we want a white top (yep, going for the retro). A few we've seen already have the white top, but many do not - it's either colored to match the car or there is no hard top at all.

Is it worth searching longer and more diligently for one with a white top already? Or are they relatively common and easy to find? How practical is repainting a top (and how expensive, if you want a GOOD job done)?

Oh, and lastly, does anyone make an aftermarket white ragtop for these cars? All the photos we see show black soft tops.

Thanks for any help and advice!

EBay and the classified section of this web site seem to be some of the best places to buy a hardtop. I'm not aware of anyone selling aftermarket replacement convertible tops at present yet for the Thunderbird.

you can order from harttz (i thinks its them...) the name is on dots site in a any event... they made the top for ford and have the patterns and what not... i think old dave ordered a custom top for his merlot a while back. as for hardtops they are easy to paint and even easier to buy and do a hardtop relay... search...

Assuming someone would actually make you a white soft top, you might want to consider the cleaning issues (black marks that cant be removed) the owners of the cashmere and sand soft tops have reported here on TBN before you purchased it. I'm betting you would probably hate a white soft top in very short order because it would never look clean.

We've had good luck with CL for other things, so sounds like that's worth a check now and then. Thanks!

                      H Pat,

Since VMG is the second rarest color, I think that you chances of finding one for sale with a white top are slim. I have never heard of an MSG with a white top....so slim also.

The least expensive route would be to paint whatever top comes with your new car.

You can also look anywhere in the country for a white top and our members here will help bring it to you via a "Hardtop Relay".

There are two different white tops. If the top was off a white bird then it is Whisper White (cream white)

If it was off any other color car then it is Performance White (bright white).

There is actually a third white color: Cashmere. It is an off-white metallic paint, goes good with any color car except whisper white.
