  • 1957 T-Bird

This is a 1957 T-Bird that was at the car show my son and I were in this week-end. It recieved a Trophy as one of the rarest classics. The couple that own it drove it to the show and have owned it for 30 years and it's all original. Does any of our members know what the name of this color is? Leroy

if original paint color - it would be called Dusk Rose. If it's not an original paint color, then only the owner might know. Seems light but then it may just be the digital image of the color.

Dot, I have a question for you. Regarding the older Thunderbirds, in what year did they go from 6 to 12 volt electrical systems?

Having restored some pre-1967 Volkswagen's, I would generally upgrade the electrical system from 6 to 12 volts (brighter lights and fewer electrical issues). Do you find that most restorers do the same with the Thunderbirds or do they prefer to keep the electrical system original?

Also that 57 Thunderbird does look pretty sweet!

Greg: Allow me to butt in here. 1955 was 6 volt and 1956 and up were 12 volts.
By the way, for anyone who may be interested, I saw a nice '55 advertised in NH. It reads:
Non-portholed top, 292CID, 198 HP, Foromatic, 15yr restoration process with full body and frame, black beauty blast, owners personal car, and many more items to list - $29,995 FYI

Thanks George, I appreciate the information. The wife and I are toying with the idea of purchasing a 55-57 model. I would like to find some within a reasonable distance from us.

I don't mind buying newer vehicles on the internet sight unseen but older vehicles make me nervous. I damn near got burned on a 1963 Volkswagen Beetle about 8 years ago. Fortunately no money exchanged hands. When I went to pick the car up in California and tow it back to Las Vegas, I was severely disappointed in what was represented and what I saw as the photos didn't tell the whole story.

No big hurry though. I'll take my time on this one.
