Re: NEVER LOCK YOU KEYS IN BIRD'S TRUNK

Anyone remember the older GM cars were you could take the keys out of the ignition after starting ??? I drove about 30 mi. with the keys including house keys in the trunk lock ONE time. After that I make sure my keys are in my hand.

      Barbara,

I think you're talking apples and oranges here. His car was totally locked up.
Your car was wide open when you closed the trunk with the keys in it. We couldn't get in the trunk because the trunk release button on the door was locked. 2 of 6 keys we tried unlocked the trunk release button. After unlocking it we pressed the button and the trunk opened. We did not go behind the seat to use the manual release.

Just clarifying because the way you wrote this sounds like 2 of 6 keys would get you into a locked car.

        Hi,

Ford does make a remote keyless entry for the Thunderbird. It cost about $85.00.
There's no wires, it's programed like your key. It's has a adhivse backing on it so you can place it anywhere, next to or below the door handle. We I bought my 05 it had one on it.
It's not the prettyest but it works.

It also fits on the inside of the Fuel door. Have it there on the Mustang, at least thats on the drivers side. But it does fit.

I'm curious which "trunk lock" they tried to pick. The one behind the seat is tough, but the one in the door (electric release button) is about the easiest lock on the planet to pick - and worse case, remove a couple of torx screws to release the door panel and you can get to the wires behind the pushbutton.

My wife and I always carry two sets when we're very far from home, though.
Do you know the difference between education and experience?
Education is when you read the fine print; experience is what you get when you don't.

Keyless Entry Keypad. Ford only lists the Tbird keypad for years 2003 to 2005.

Am I out of luck since mine is a 2002?

The button on the door only works electronically which of course was disabled by the alarm being activated. The lock in that button is only to deactivate the button if you don't want a valet or whomever to get into your trunk. They could not pick the lock behind the door. They had to remove the entire mechanism.

Hannah3, If you lock the trunk with the key button on the driver's door and you give the key to a Valet to park your car, what's to keep him from unlocking it with the key? I'm just wondering becuase I offen let the Valets park my car when I go to the Casino in Michigan. Should I not give them the key bob, just the key?

I've noticed something new with Ford when I take my LadyBird in for service. Now they take the key only and return the key bob to me before taking it away for service. I have no idea what the reasoning behind separating the key and bob is, since I have been taking my cars to them for the past 12 years and they have never done that before.

Excellent question. This comes straight from the owners manual. I really don't understand this either. If you just give the valet the key wihtout the fob than by definition the alarm has to be disabled (so he can drive the car) therefore the key would have to work in the trunk lock on the door. Hmmm... what say you TBNers??

I put the key pad on mine soon as my bird arrived at the dealership. Loved it ever since and the keypad even opens the trunk too.
