  • It's Borla Time.... I'm So Excited !!

I feel like a kid about to enter a candy shop..... tomorrow I pickup my Borla system for the Blue Bird.... it will be a "road trip" to Massena NY... (you don't want to know the costs of Borlas in Canada)... even my installer is pumped (probably will be a photo-shoot)... I can hear that rumble in the distance.. and it's not the thunder that keeps hanging around the Ottawa area...

On a serious note, I want to sincerely thank Julie (aka Borla Babe) for the wonderful advice - I am sure we will be speaking again in the future.

What better way to spend my holidays??? (Please don't tell me to get a life... my wife already says that....)

02bluebird, My 04 Bird has the straight Cat-Back exhuast. You simply go to any reputable muffler shop and have them remove the two resinators and replace that space with a piece of pipe and use the original polished tips. Alot less money and alot better sound. I had my car in a show last week-end and I got alot of complements on how my pipes sounded. One guy called his son in Florida who owns a 05 T-Bird and had me rev it up so his son could hear it over the phone, then I explaned to him how it was done. My car was modified by the original owner and I don't know exactly what it cost and I have all the original parts if I ever want to go back to the stock exhuast. I did have this done to my 04 GMC Z-71 but they had to put glasspacks on each pipe becuase they were too load, but my truck has a 5.3 Vortec V-8. My truck ran me $300.00 with the pipes , glasspacks, new hangers and 3" Stainless Steel Megaflow Baloney cut tips. That includes labor too. It really sounds SWEET. Leroy

Mark, you can't go wrong with the Borla system. The majority of our members who have gone from stock have gone with the Borla system. It's a nice sound. Welcome to the TBN Borla Club.

When you say resonators, I take it you are referring to the two pieces just to the rear of the engine, up front. Do you mind if I ask, how much to do this? Is the sound mellow, loud, or a "soft purr", if that makes sense. Appreciate your reply............

            Woah up there!!!

You sound like you're looking to cut up your "cats".

The Resonators are the big ugly cans just ahead of your tail pipe tips. They don't just quiet things. They can actually be tuned for most any level of sound, load or soft, ...... what they REALLY do that is important is eliminate the "drone" that makes a car miserable to drive at certain engine speeds that set the drone off. The Borla system while louder still has resonators and I suspect that's because like most vehicles.....you need 'em on your T-Bird too.

The big question I'd have here is does it "drone" at any particular speed without the resonators and if so how loud and annoying is it?

Nothing worse than a car that can't be driven at a steady cruising speed without 'causing that low engine speed "Drone" that rattles your molars and hurts your ears.

Re: It's Borla Time.... I'm So Excited !!

bottomtime, I call them resinators becuase thats what they used to call the second muffler in an exhaust system back before Cat-Converters. The big block 460 Cu.In. Fords had them on some models becuase the mufflers weren't enough to eliminate the rumble. Today the Cat. acts somewhat as a muffler but the auto makers still install a muffler after the Cat. Whatever you want to call them they're located just behind the rear wheels just before the exhuast tips. My pictures pretty much tell the story, you can see where the welds are and were the pipes were cut. As far as sound goes this system is louder than the Borlas that I have heard, it has a deeper rumble and yet isn't real loud at low speeds or low RPM, but when you get on it, heads turn. Besides costing alot less, I prefer the original exhaust tips rather than the Borlas, the Borlas are alot bigger and are obviously an aftermarket add-on. As far as what this cost, I don't know for sure becuase mine was done by the original owner. But I'm sure you could take these pictures to any reputable muffler shop and they could give you a quoat. Just put Borlas on my 05 Inca Gold a couple of Saturdays ago. A set has been on the 03 Bird since late 03. Now both Birds can boast of Borla Exhausts and K&N CAIs.

Re: It's Borla Time.... I'm So Excited !!

I just got back from New York, with a nice big Borla box in the back of my Ford Escape (yes, my other vehicle is a Ford). I could start another thread on how much I love my Escape... but I won't.

So tomorrow is the big install - up here in Ottawa there is a local cruise every Tuesday night... I will have just missed it by 1 day with the Borla installed, but there is always next week.

Soon I will be a proud new member of the Borla clan. Thanks to Julie, I will personally supervisor the alignment of the Borla logos on the tailpipes.....

                    What a rush...

Re: It's Borla Time.... I'm So Excited !!

OK... this is the "final" installment of my Borla experience.... unless there is a sequel in a million miles .... anyway, the Borla was installed on Bluebird today, and though I have said this in previous posts.... what a rush!!... My installer and I opened the box (which by the way, was meticulously packaged... and the first thing that pops out is this really neat baseball cap... so of course, the joke ensued.. I bought a baseball cap with a free exhaust... the excitement of the moment). Then two installers were put to work (I think there was a lottery, because they were pretty excited to install this exhaust) and within about 25 minutes (which included a complete Borla system polish), they were done. They told me they have done several Corvettes which just seemed to slip by my ears, but I nodded with appreciation nevertheless. The etched Borla insignias on the tailpipes were perfectly lined up, and I just stared (mouth wide open) at the undercarriage. Then Bluebird was lowered, and at this time, quite literally the entire mechanic crew of my favourite establishment was lined up to admire Bluebird's new rear end, and then I let one of the installers take her for a spin around the adjacent (empty) parking lot to drink in the supple roar of the new exhaust. The manager soon followed and rushed out to sit in her cockpit and again listen to this unbelievable rumble.

Oh and by the way, the weather, like most days in Ottawa this summer, was spitting a bothersome drizzle, enough to wet the windshield of Bluebird. So when I took her home, I was much more interested in listening to this amazing sound emanating from Bluebird, and then realized I had to find the wiper switch fast... she is not used to the rain, but luckily the wipers worked.... after I found the switch to turn them on.

No, I don't work or have any affiliation with Borla... just absolute appreciation to all who have educated and easily convinced me to join the illustrious Borla club.

So when do I get my official membership card???

Thanks for welcoming me to the Borla Club, Charlie... now I am waiting patiently for Mr. Mailman to deliver my CAI kit for BlueBird. My wife has told me to finish my holidays early and get back to work because I am draining the family income while on holidays....

Mark, we have a "Thunderbird Borla Club" here on TBN. PM Gobird and ask him to put your name on the list. That goes for any other TBN members who have added Borlas to their Thunderbirds.
