  • Ready to Roll!

Just got the bird detailed (clay blocked, polished and waxed sans pressure washing the engine), the coolant leak is fixed, new bra on, GPS ready to go, all the little mods I wanted done....now we're ready to take a cruise and show it off (as a tropical system approachs FL). That black sure does shine (wet look) when it's done right.

        Gary,

Did you do the clay block yourself or have someone do it? I ask because I took my car in to the dealer for oil change and inspection and while there I guess they spray painted a car because when I was cleaning it after getting it back, I came across paint specks all over the front quarter panel. I was wondering if you have any tips for using the clay bar for cleaning?

I used the Zaino's claybar on my T-bird when I bought it a few months ago. Worked great although I did not have any paint splatters on my car. The key thing with the claybar is to make sure that the area you are working on is lubricated as indicated on the directions. I used McGuire's car wash and water but I am sure that the folks here on TBN might have other suggestions.

Another thing I was told prior to doing the claybar work is to be sure not to press too hard as you can hurt the paint. Work slow in small sections at a time and take your time. I was very pleased with the results, my car is smooth as glass now and really shines. I also used the All In One Wax and the Z-6 Gloss Enhancer spray. You can see some photos in my gallery of the paint close up.

The link to the Zaino's claybar is here http://www.zainostore.com/Merchant2/...oduct_Count=19

          Good luck!

No, I had the clay blocking done by the detailer. It took a lot of debris off the car but I don't know if it would work for overspray.

I'll try to get some pics tomorrow or soon although I'm not sure they will really show it off properly.

              Re: Ready to Roll!

Clay was originally designed for overspray. All of the other uses are add ons.

Fergi - come see me. I just clayed my Expedition yesterday. Took awhile, but it's worth it. Your overspray should come off with a good claying. Oh - and change dealers, like we already talked about!

I think that's my plan for the weekend. I'm woefully ashamed to say that my Highlander is sorely in need of clay bar, polish, and wax. I was never informed that clear coat wasn't forever and I don't think my truck has ever seen wax since I bought it. I was out with Mcguire's polish last weekend cleaning Marilin when I polished the truck a little and the gunk that came off was amazing. I gave hubby a hand held buffer for Christmas, think I'll be using it instead.

As for the dealer, Ford did a follow up call and we told them how displeased we are and they notified the dealer who called and wanted to rectify the problem. Believe me, they are not getting their hands on Marilyn again...
