  • '57 Sold!

On the Barrett-Jackson 2008 Auction from Scottdale, AZ, on the Speed channel this AM, there was a fully restored '57 that sold for $75,000.

Car was a beautiful "Willow Green" and interior appeared to be a light green. It did not have a top on it but they stated it had a white top w/porthole - no comment about softtop.

    It was a beauty!

Forgot to say it had 45k miles.

    Re: '57 Sold!

Must have been a nice car.

I've kind of been checking out 55-57 era Thunderbirds on eBay periodically. Now, I'll qualify this to say most of the restored Thunderbirds I've checked out on eBay were nice and clean driver quality cars and not 100 point Concours restorations.

It seems like very few change hands though as most sellers want $40,000 or more. The 57 models appear to me to hold their value a little better and can generally sell at that level or higher. The 55 and 56 models seem to have a little trouble getting into that range and most that I've seen change hands tend to be in the $28,000 - 32,000 range.

Keep in mind, I've been looking at nice drivers and not concours quality restorations. Just my 2 cents as to what I've observed; but I would love to hear what some of you who may have experience with these older T-Birds have to say.

I always thought I wanted a 56 but I took Dot and Sally's advice and drove one WITH power steering: I decided I would stick with the Retros.

Yeah, what the hell was I thinking.

I've owned a number of classic vehicles and while they're fun they can also be a hassle to maintain. People always have fond memories of the old cars but forget they're nowhere near as reliable as the modern cars of today.

          You Got that right, Greg.

I told my mechanic I was going to auction and he said well seal the garage floor with concrete sealer or buy a BIG oil pan: You are going to need it.
