Response Edge Tires

I just replaced my original 6 and an half year old Michelins (47,000 miles, still with good tread left) with Goodyear Response Edge Tires from America's Tire (Discount Tire). $773.50 out the door. On the drive home they felt a little rough, even though I asked for 30psi. So the next day, I checked the pressures when the tires were cold. The left side tires were 32psi each, so I figured that was the problem. Then I checked the right rear--53psi!!!, right front--27psi!!!

Lesson learned--check the pressures before leaving the store. Competence seems to be a rare commodity these days.

The ride now seems less rough than the Michelins, handling and noise about the same. I'm happy!

Hi Ralph. Good choice. To replace to them. Our NM, also an 02, had originals on her, just prior to me purchasing her. The owner had a blow-out!! Still plenty of tread. Turns out the tires were NINE YEARS OLD. He replaced all 4, prior to my purchase.

On another note, I Just bought an 09 Mustang to add to the collection. Ride home was stiff. Checked the air. Guess what. Same as you, 50+ all arround. So much for dealer prep!! If they missed that, what else DIDN'T they look at???????

Dave: Most new cars have high pressure that the dealers are supposed to lower before delivery. Of course they don't. The reason is so the tires seat properly when first put on. 45-50 psi is not uncommon.

I just put new tires on my car and purposely put about 38 psi in them to drive for a few days. I have since lowered them to the correct 30 lbs pressure.

I recently replaced the conti's with General Exclaim UHP's. Super sticky on dry, excellent traction on wet, and a very good price at Tire Rack. If memory serves, I got out for less than $500 on them.

I put the Goodyear Eagle Response Edge tires on a little over a year ago. I love them. Frank is probably going to put the same ones on his before winter.

I had the same thing happen with my Response Edge tires-- they had 38# each and were rough. Lowered to 32 psi and that make a good ride.

I have 10K on them now and no problems.

The reviews of the Goodyear ResponsEdge on the Tire Rack website suggest that it is not that good in snow. I purchased a set for my 02 back in February, and I really like them. As others have noted, the ride is firmer than the OEM Michelins, but that is more than made up for by the superior handling qualities. I don't drive my Thunderbird in bad weather, so I don't have any personal experience with the tire under adverse conditions. I was persuaded to buy the ResponsEdge by the excellent reviews it received, and the way it improved the overall look of the car.

I replaced the originals at 45k with almost identical Big O's with a better warranty than Michelin. The ride was a little rough and I had a constant wobble at 70mph. Big O, Discount Tires, Goodyear tried everything to balance but the wobble remained along with a general roughness nobody could explain. I had the struts replaced at 50k and the ride difference is amazing. Everybody said I was wasting money since the old shocks weren't leaking but they were wrong. Even Ford, the only place I could find struts for this car, didn't want to do it. My advice: If you plan to keep the car forever, replace stuff before it needs replacing....and don't expect the experts to know everything.
