    Re: Response Edge Tires

So what is "buying American"? American-made by a non-U.S.-based company or made outside of the U.S. by an American company? BTW, I went with the Turanza's.

      Re: Response Edge Tires

I have only had my 05 for about 3 months, and have a new set of Goodyear Response Edge tires. The prior owner put them on before he sold it. The ride does seem a little harsh, and it does not get better as the tires get warm. I have had it in and tires rotated and reballanced, no difference. Have had it to two mechanics, one with the non-Ford dealer that I bought it from and one an independent. Both say everything looks normal, no leaking struts, no front end problems and no wheel bearings or ball joint problems. Guess I will just keep an eye on it and hope it does not get worse. I did buy an extended warranty, so will wait and see I guess. Any other things to check that might cause the stiffer ride? Handles great.

I wonder if lowering the pressures to 28psi would soften the ride a bit? Would the tires wear out sooner?

Probably (would ride softer) would but at what cost? Lower profile tires need not be under inflated so as to prevent too much sidewall flex. Additionally, with only 28psi your mileage will drop a bit and your car MAY have the feeling of driving it on beach sand.

If the ride is not to your liking - doesn’t Goodyear have a 30 day unconditional satisfaction guarantee?

Yes, they have a 30 day trial period. BUT, what's my alternative? Another Goodyear product? Which one?

Good question. The F1 All Season would probably not be any better since Goodyears' own web site says it is not & that leaves the LS. It is a smooth & quite tire but not exactly a performance tire.

Have you had the tires road forced balanced? If not, that may help.

Thanks for the reply. I will have them balanced again (and ask about "road forced"). At my next service, I'll have Ford check the "X" braces. They were loose when the car was new.
If there is no improvement in ride, I'll just live with the great handling.

My 2004 has less than 26,000 miles. I have heard great things about Tire Van. They will come to your home, office, or other place and replace the tires for you. I'm thinking about using them when I want the tires replaced. The really cool thing about their website is how they match your car to the tires available. If you click "shop for tires", fill out the year, make model of the T-bird... it will show your tires by size. There are 37 tires to fit the T- bird (SORRY, did not see any whitewalls). It will display the handling, wet traction, tread life, and quietness of ride. You can play with the slides to filter the tires you want. Prices are shown. Tire Van might not be in your area, but at least you can shop the tires to get a feel of what you may want.
