Re: Golf Clubs in the trunk: Will they fit?

As has been said, two carry stand-bags will fit but it helps if they are more oval or rectangular in shape. Some that are round stick up too high so something more narrow is best. I also have a 9" full sized tour bag and it will fit - by itself. In all cases I have to put the clubheads in first, sliding them under one side, and then laying the bottom of the bag next. Of course, two small Sunday carry bags fit without a problem. If you use a cart, it will fit in the trunk but your bag will have to go in the front seat.

Ditto to all the comments that they will fit. I keep mine in a Bagboy stand bag and can then put a full size bag in with them. As others mentioned you have to put them in heads first but tey fit with no problem. Also room left for shoes and other items. I play at least three times a week and always take my Bird.

Why don't you do what I do and leave them in the bag room at your club? You can also purchase what we used to call a "Sunday" bag which is more compact

As was mentioned club head end first....and it's much easier if you have a cover on the top the bag so that the clubs don't slip out as you're putting them in

Give up golf for something more fun ..... cruising in your new T-bird. Besides you'll be so busy detailing it, putting on mods, going to events and surfing TBN you won't have time to chase that little ball around.

Seriously, I don't play golf (okay - I did once when I was 16 and again when I was 32 - I missed the round when I was 48 so guess I'm not due till I'm 64) but I can't imagine not being able to fit two bags in there since it was a stated design parameter for the car.

My wife and I get both our bags in. It is tight but trunk closes. Try that with any other "sports car". Although I agree with most here that it is a cruiser.

Re: Golf Clubs in the trunk: Will they fit?

I have a large bag with a 10" mouth that fits quite nicely in the 'Bird's trunk. I always take out the driver and three wood (metal) and angel them under the fender panels to make more room.

When I golf with a buddy and we take my car we use our 'Sunday bags' and the trunk will accommodate two of these easily. Once again, moving the longer clubs into the fender wells makes it easier.

Have fun golfing and with a new 'Bird.

Dorsey, My bride and I are both avid golfers and enjoy traveling to diffrent places to play. By using Travl-a-lite golf bags(the model without the wheels) and space bags for our clothes,we are able to get two sets of clubs, associated gear, and clothing for both of us for two weeks in the trunk of the Bird.
This year we have gone on several extended golf trips from 7 days to 15 or 16 days with no problems and we are planning a couple more for this fall..............the only down side is the need for an iron to spiff up you clothes after the space bags..............we have had an absolute ball................ no pun intended.......Bill & Brenda Errickson

Re: Golf Clubs in the trunk: Will they fit?

Hey, thank you for all the GREAT replies! It looks like I CAN have it all! (Clubs concealed securely in trunk...as I had my first set of clubs stolen last year and I'm very careful now), AND cruise in style with the T-Bird. Thank you!!

Before I go out looking for a T-Bird...just a few more questions.

                      1) So when you want to take the hardtop off, where do you store the hardtop? My guess would be the trunk, obviously. So if I were to go golfing, and I wanted to go topless, then the hardtop would have to be left behind in the garage, right?

                      2) Are there any particular models that have more trunk storage space than others? I live in Seattle, and I have been mostly looking for T-Birds for sale on Craigs List...which model is the best right now? I'm guessing with all the improvements, it would be the 2005 one, right?

Re: Golf Clubs in the trunk: Will they fit?

The car comes with a stand and removal tool for the hard top. The top will not fit in the trunk. The stand puts the top upright and takes a space about 2’X6’ on the floor. The stand has rollers so can be moved.
The 2002 thru 2005 are the same as far as the trunk size.

Hardtop gets stored in your garage on a stand and covered with a light canvas cover.

All models have the same trunk space. The best model is the 2002 Thunderbird Vintage Blue [TVB].

The hard top does not store in the car. Typically folks take off the hard top for their summer (or sometimes winter down south) and store it on the included trolly and cover it with included soft cover. The soft top is electric and works fast and easy. All T-birds have the same trunk.

                                Dorsey:

There is no way a hardtop fits in the trunk. Most of us leave them in the garage on the stand or have a hoist to pull them up to the ceiling for storage. Plus removing the top is a two person job!

When I go to the golf course I just put a cover over the open car (available from Thunderbird concepts) that velcros over cockpit.

You can't go wrong with any good condition 'Bird from '02 through '05. Almost all of them are out of factory warranty now (due to time not mileage) but you may find one with a transferable extended warranty. '02's probably are not holding their value quite as well due to age and the fact that Ford did not choose to extend their warranty on COPS (read more under T-Bird garage) to 100,000 miles as they did on the '03-'05 models.
