Just be cause some of us did not say that we feel for the family of this young lad, does NOT mean it isn't implied!!

I'm not sure about these cars ending up with "younger" buyers anytime soon. I bought mine new in December 2003. I was 20. The dealership folks thought I was playing a prank when I asked to test-drive one of the 'Birds they had on the lot. Buying the 2003 was a compromise with my mother; I wanted a '56. Anyway, my fraternity brothers universally thought that the Thunderbird was a pretty car, but never one they would want to own; too "old folks" for them. THEIR WORDS, NOT MINE!!!! The girls at college, however, liked the car and that’s all I cared about, anyway…

I also would hesitate to think that these cars will be common with younger people as mere transportation because parts will probably become iffy in the future, thus reducing the ownership pool to fanatics (I include myself in the "fanatics" group, of course).

This story is a little close for me, if you will, since this fellow is only a year younger than I am now. I lost friends in high school and college due to the utter stupidity of drinking and driving, each tragedy throwing the school into turmoil and releasing a torrent of grief that nevertheless caused no one to change their dangerous habits. This man made an unfortunate decision that his friends and family will have to live with for a very long time.
