  • Letter of Apology in Regards to "Buckle Up" Post

This is a note of apology to all members of TBN in regards to the Buckle Up thread.
Judging by the number of PMs I've received, actually these PMs could be thought of as hate mail, I possibly should have choosen my words more carefully.

I did not intend for my opinion expressed in my post of that thread to be calling any one names. I just thought TBN members should have been showing a little more respect for the family of the fatality.

Again I apologize to all of you. I can only hope that these ill feelings I seemed to have created will pass.

I'd like to request that the attacking PMs come to a stop more isn't necessary.

You all have made your point.
    Mike

    Mike,

As one of the owners of TBN, I am truly sorry that some members have used the PM option to send you "hate mail". It's a violation of our TOS.

I for one did not see anything wrong with your statement. You were stating what you felt and I was also leaning in that same direction but didn't pursue it. You made a statement that you had a right to do and that should have been the end of it.

Mike. I did not feel any need for any apology for myself. Many people jump the gun on stories like that and I regret that I often can be one of them. For me I guess it's best to wait and let the facts tell the true story.

Mike, you must have struck a nerve, or two.

It's difficult for me to imagine that "hate mail" would have come from our members about you stating an opinion, but having just looked over the first nine posts, I made post #3 and merely suggested that the young man may have been on the road, at that hour, going to work.

Just an observation, as you know, I didn't send any pm's.

Mike, you do have your right to what you posted. I guess from my view I was trying to understand why you lumbed me in with that when my post had nothing negitive about the individual who died. Just my opinion and in this great country we are entitled to one!

                No hard feelings here!

                  Hi there,

There should be no need to be apologising in this situation. I too thought that some of the comments on the young guy wrecking his T-bird were very insensitive and if anything it should be whoever sent you these p.m's that should be owing you an apology.

It also seems a weird attitude that some folks have to be offended that the beloved Retro bird should be falling into the hands of 'younger' drivers. To me this is a good sign. I think it's only the fact that the initial price was so high that most 'younger' folks could not afford one together with the fact that it is more of a cruiser than a real sports car. It does, without doubt have a bit of a 'FUDDY DUDDY' reputation but personally, (I am not young or old - I'm 49), I love this car for what it is and don't give a dam about labels that folks like to attach to things.

Just my personal opinion. All the best, Gordon.

I don't see the need for an apology..just saying what you feel..

Where has the Freedom of Speech gone? I am sure nobody was making light of that unfortunate person and their family.

don't see the issue at all, Mike, and not sure you owe anyone an apology...thought it was a good post...it's too bad some folks chose to make an issue of grief into an issue of hate...

Mike, I do take exception with your catagorizing the private I sent you as "hate mail" ... I just stated very honestly and distinctly my displeasure with your assuming I was cynical when you don't know me and/or have never met me and assuming I was not sympathetic to this particular family's loss. I obviously have no clue as to what others may have sent to you and perhaps this is your point of reference.

Hate mail as I interpret it and the standard meaning most commonly accepted per statute is attacking or defaming someone because of their race/creed/color/religion/sexual orientation etc ... But that definition in itself is open to jurisdiction and judicial interpretation I guess.

That said, it is all good. Life is to short for this sort of thing and if I upset you then I am sorry I did so. Folks around here will tell you I can be rather frank particularly if I feel I have been unfairly attacked.

Let's move on ... No hard feelings on my part. If I can help you out in the future just holler.

As for Gordon's concern about my comment that the Retros are now being purchased in greater numbers as the cars depreciate by teenagers, my point is that those cars will not be maintained as we have done so with our Retros. But then Gordon's argument could also be made for when the car was new: Some folks just bought them to drive them until the lease expired. So I understand Gordon's view and point taken.

                            Hi there,

Just numbers Dave. On paper I may be 49 but I'm proud to say I still have a mental age of about 14. This can cause problems, especially first thing in the morning cos my body thinks it's about 80 years old I'm sure.

I liked the comment in the previous post:

"People just bought them to drive to the end of the lease period".

Strangely enough, that's why we bought ours as well.

All the best to everyone, Gordon.
