    Re: Thunderbird Values-

That 04 Merlot I mentioned above in an earlier post with 190 miles on it, has been bid up to $24,101.00 with 3 days to go. On the other hand, here's a real clean 04 Platinum Silver with Sand interior that has 79,512 miles on it, and it's listed with a Buy-It-Now price of $15,801.00. Ebay Item #250579756721. It's in a Lexus showroom in Vienna,Va. I guess mileage makes a difference in resale value and I think this also shows that there is market out there for these cars, if they're low millage and well cared for. Leroy

Like Leroy says mileage is everything when it comes to selling these cars (Tbirds) and that there is a market out there for these cars, if they're low mileage and well cared for. There was a 05 Cashmere on ebay the other day with 100+ miles, and a reserve of $30,000, It sold in just a few days. I was thinking of biding on it. Oh well study long, you study wrong...

        Re: Thunderbird Values-

The auction for the 04 Merlot with 190 miles on it mentioned above ended today with 17 bids, and was bid up to $24,600.00. The car did not sell, as the reserve was not met. Had this car been covered under the Ford ESP warranty, it may have done better. I think this pretty much shows what the value of these cars are today with the economy the way it is. Leroy

Six Pac, I don't think any warranty company would touch this car, but you could try. Good Luck! Leroy

Who are we kidding?...collecting cars cost money. It's all about the camaraderie and enthusiasim for the vintage. Take for instance, the following driving machine for sale on youtube. The car was refurbished and then completely furbished again (go figure!).

                      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZAfk7WaE0U

All we can do for now is enjoy our T-Birds, and if time comes to sell, one can hope to get the best price. Make money? That's for a lucky few that happen to hold a good collectible car at the right place at the right time.
                      Enjoy the hobby though.

Now Thunderbirds, they are the hobby of the true connoisseur!

Lindy, I think it's called " Labor of Love ". You see it all the time on the B-J auction, restored cars selling for a fraction of what the owners have in them. Several years ago I bought a 70 Corvette roadster for 13K and 4 years later sold it for 20K. Now I have a 1948 Willys Jeep I'm playing around with, I've got a Ford 289 V-8 in it, and I know I could sell it and make some money on it even in these times, but it's not for sale. I have too much fun with it, just like my TBird. Leroy

                          Re: Thunderbird Values-

                          I bought a 58 TBird in 1989 for 4K. Over 10 years, I put 2K into her. I sold her for 6K.

Factor in the cost of insurance, inflation, and a garage, and I came out a loser.

But, you can't put a price on the fun of driving a one owner, 49,000 mile squarebird. You certainly don't see yourself coming and going.

My 2003 never was a daily driver, but I tried to use it once per week going to work and for driveable business trips.

Now that I no longer work, I'm actually putting on less miles.

Hello to all from Texas! This is my first posting, and I was drawn to all of the chat regarding T-bird values. I was interested in selling my car, until I went through the "normal" channels. I discovered to my dismay, that dealers, Car-Max etc. will only offer Blue Book. They look only at miles, condition of course, and the year. It is true the retro-bird is a car that draws only a select few in comparison to what others are purchasing via E-bay, Barrett-Jackson etc. I watch the car shows a great deal and I simply do not see the retro-bird very often. I have a yellow 2002 convertible with a yellow removable hardtop, it has only 3,300 original miles and is in excellent condition. It is not a daily driver, and has never seen bad weather. I received an offer from our local Car-Max for a paultry 18K, but they guaranteed the price. Yeah!! Good luck to all that are trying to sell. No matter what the economy, if someone really wants the car they will find a way to buy it. Thanks for reading my note!!

                                Cynthia:

If CarMax is planning to re-sell the car then they have to use the trade value to appraise it. If they are offering $18,000 that is an awfully strong price.

Kelley Blue Book Trade-In Value is the amount consumers can expect to receive from a dealer for a trade-in vehicle, assuming an accurate appraisal of the vehicle's condition, mileage and features. This value will likely be less than the Private Party Value because the reselling dealer incurs the cost of safety inspections, reconditioning and other costs of doing business.
