    Re: Thunderbird Values-

If CarMax is offering $18 they sell it for $21k or $22k which seems fair to me given the mileage and color as IY is not as common as EB. JMHO

Some new car dealers here in the Chicagoland area are advertising in thier ads that they'll give you KBB value for your trade-in. That might work out well for some buyers? A Toyota dealer is offering the what the MSRP was on your 09 trade-in off any new Toyota. No ThanX. Leroy

          Cynthia,

Maybe you could sell or trade it for a RV to this dealer:

See bottom of first page for 2002 for sale and his price.

            1. Never finance a car that you are going to use as a toy.

            2. Always buy show cars, hot rods, and collector cars for cash and don't ever look back. Consider the car a complete loss and don't worry what the last buyer paid, or next buyer will pay.

            3. In an economic disaster, there is no such thing as a good car to invest in.

            4. If you are going to worry about how much a hobby car costs, or will cost to play with, don't buy it.

I learned all of this the way all car nuts do. I stopped counting cars I've owned, including some real beaters, at 100. Did I have fun with the show cars and hot rods? Yes! Did I make money on any of them? NO! Just have fun and enjoy one of the most historical cars ever built.

Very well put Ed. What you have said applies to many hobbies. I'm into toy trains and
their values have dropped like a rock in the last fifteen years. So buy to play with and
enjoy as an investment it just doesn't work.

I agree with you Ed. I have a 1936 Chevy street rod I paid cash for use it for cruising and car shows and just having fun. I allocate $2k /year for updates and improvements. I just enjoy it.
My wife has the 2003 007 TBird she does the same. We enjoy the company of some great friends at shows.
We are both retired and this is what we like to do... not into RV's or camping.
The TBird and Street Rod provide joy...only problem is where to put the grandkids. Maybe we need the new Taurus SHO.

For what it's worth: A 2005 Bronze T-bird with 7,800 miles sold for $21,700 at a wholesaler's auction near Nashville yesterday. The car was listed as 'extra clean'.

The value is what a person is willing to pay no matter what the KB or NADA says, for one those just lump all the years together with out taking into any of the differances of each year..

My 2004 VMG sold for the asking price of $25,000 with 22,000 miles. in perfect condition... The person who brought this bird said after looking for a year has never seen any car this clean including his SSR, Prowler he owns. We use to rebuild & show cars.

The last 10 years or so the car hobby has been tainted by a runaway econmy and people making a quick buck. Many owners today are not really car enthusiast. I think only desparate people will sell right now and we will see a more stable market in the future and nore car entusiast's as owners. I totally agree that buying any vehicle as in vestment is a big mistake. Just being able to break even is a blessing

On the other hand Bronzebird (Rick) and Lonestar (Bill) got top dollar for their birds in less than a couple weeks.

                          Roger:

You need to consider that Bill and Rick are fantastic salespeople and very gifted advertising copywriters.... both of those things helped to sell our 'Birds.

In my case having a lot of provenance also helped. Back in '07 Quickdraw got me a lot of build information on my car, an original window sticker and factory figures w/serial numbers on production for that specific car.

In addition, I had a complete record of everything that had every been done on the car since it left the dealer in Knoxville, TN on April 27, 2005. I kept EVERY receipt in a three ring binder, along with before and after photos of modifications and a pictorial record of the car's travels and some service work.

That binder seemed to spark more interest than the actual car to the person who ultimately bought it.

Man, I have been called a lot of things but never a "fantastic" sales person. Heck, I do not like most people so I would never make it in sales.

                              Rick,
I have used the "binder" thing on several of my cars and it helped greatly in obtaining much more than an "average" price. Included I had the originals of all car magazines with the road tests of the vehicle I was selling. The potential buyers ate this stuff up. I even have one on the Honda Nighthawk motorcycle.
