  • Vapor Lock? Please Help

I have had two recent experiences with what I could only describe as Vapor Lock having an English Ford at age 16 that frequently locked up on me.

My beautiful bird completely shut down in heavy traffic at high speeds on the freeway recently and here in Az. that's 75 MPH. I was able to make it to the road side...sheer luck.

This is the second time this has happened in 60 days. My car has only $25,000 Miles. Yep, I read the manual from cover to cover and saw reference to gas cap closing which I did open and recheck on the first occasion and still had to have the bird towed. At an authorized Ford dealer they replaced: a sensor, air filter, cleaned throttle body and fuel injectors to the tune of $700.

My bird has been serviced at every oil change, garaged, completed diagnostic checks and inspected prior to a long trips just prior to my recent 800 mile trip still failed. I have been filling gas tanks for many years about 55 and have never had such a problem other than my first car. Any one else have this happen or could possibly advise? Thanks so much. Kay...AZ>

    Re: Vapor Lock? Please Help

In 2004, I had someone contact me about their 04 shutting down several times on them. I don't know if he ever got it resolved but the local dealer couldn't find the problem.( I figure the dealer just didn't want to spend the time on it.)

Kay, Did they replace all that stuff after the 2nd time it happened to you?

There is a kill switch that shuts down the fuel pump in a collision. I've heard of these sometimes becoming too sensitive for some reason. There is supposed to be a reset button under the dash above the gas peddel I think. Leroy

The kill swith is in the left side kick panel. It could be faulty if there are no lights coming on in the dash.
