  • 3rd RetroBird Owner/Operator-Involved Fatal Accident in 5 Weeks

This is the third RetroBird owner/operator-involved fatal accident that I've come across since mid-August. A very troubling development indeed.

Here are the links to the first two tragedies:

    1. August 18th, 2008, Redding, CA

    2. September 14th, 2008, Columbus, OH

In this case yesterday, in Columbia, MO, the operator was a male, 69 years of age, operating a 2002 TBird, and may have unfortunately suffered a heart attack while driving. The vehicle apparently ran off the road and came to rest in a flooded area (3-4 ft. deep).

Good News: my main computer is back home and no retrobird files lost after I downloaded a virus.

No Dino, I have a Thunderbird news profile running that kicks out any and everything that is reported on Ford Thunderbirds, among other topics of interest. I'd be quite a ghoul if I were to be actively searching out this sort of depressing subject matter. If I've crossed over the line into the uncomfortable or inappropriate, forgive me.

This information is relevant if it points to a defect in the Thunderbird's design. There appears to be a common cause linking these fatalities. In each instance, the operator lost control of the vehicle. The question remains: Was it driver error as the cause or something else?

It is not good news to be reading, but an eye opener at the same time.

It just shows that we are not invincible, and it can happen to a T-Bird and its driver. Makes you thinks twice about how you drive.

                • One was opening her door while driving down the road.
                • One suffered a heart attack.
                • One flipped the car over and was not wearing a seat belt.
Sure sounds like a design problem to me....????

Thanks for that info. I've put in my own news alert now on google for Ford Thunderbird.

ps - not offended by the reports.

Not at all Lee. What you described does make sense.

If you looked I think you would find deaths reported in the rough proportion to the outstanding numbers on the road for any vehicle in a particular class. For instance, set your search for Corvettes and you'll see many more deaths but probably in the same proportion for that of our Birds.
