  • A/C cut out for awhile...

    Has anybody experienced this?:
Yesterday, after about an hour of driving at freeway speed, with the A/C on, set to about 60-65 degrees, The A/C suddenly began blowing hot air. The fan and and the A/C control panel was apparently still functioniong, yet it was as if the refrigerant was gone. I kept testing it as I was driving. Only hot air would blow out.
I shut down the a/c, put down the top and continued on my jouney. After the car was parked for an hour or so, I tested the a/c function, and it seemed to work, and blow cold air again. However, I still kept it off the rest of the day. Tried it again later in the evening, and it seemed OK. Any ideas what could cause this?

    Thnks!

My bird has done that 1 time in the past, that was about a year ago. I think the electronics get confused. Kind of like computers, power them down and back up, Walla its works its called PFM.

If it were really hot air, warmer than the outside air, may have been the coolant control valve for heater that decided to open up, they can do funny things,( just tell it to get serious or you will hit it with a hammer or get it replaced.)

        Hi,
Thanks for the replies. Both of you are correct. It blew pretty hot air, as if the heat were turned up to 85.
But after shutting it down for awhile, it operated normally. I DID threaten it with a hammer, and I think it scared it straight!
        Thanks!
