  • Extended Warranty

It's getting to be time for me to buy the extended warranty for my '05 that is out of factory warranty in December. I would prefer to buy from my dealer with the thought that I might build some kind of loyalty with them, but would I really?

Can the Ford dealer negotiate the price?

What's the official Ford web site for buying online?

What kind of documentation do I get from them for proof?

If I buy the extended warranty now will it only kick in when my factory warranty ends or does the clock start ticking as soon as I buy it, factory warranty or not?

Don't know what your dealer might do, but we bought an extended warrenty for the Shelby this month at Freedom Ford and the clock started ticking from the day the car was sold to the original owner (Aug.'06).

      Re: Extended Warranty

I negotiated price when I bght my FORD extended warranty. Don't take their initial offer. I got a much better deal by asking for it. If your dealer won't budge, stand up, walk away and look for another dealer that will. Also - I waited until the original factory warranty was UP. I had 2 days remaining when I purchased.

        Gary:

I could not get my local Ford dealer to negotiate so I went on line to find some other Ford dealers who carried the Ford Extended Service Plan and went the rounds.

The best deal I found was with Morande Lincoln at 171 Tolland Pike in Manchester, CT. They handled the whole thing via email and the cost was $2,020 for a 100,000 mile or 72 month deal. Bear in mind that both the mileage and the time numbers go back to the original purchase date.

Dealer told me that effective 10/1/08, every ESP plan would now require the buyer to pay the 1st day of rental fees for a replacement car during a service visit; if your car was in for 2 days, you'd pay for the 1st day of the rental. He said Ford was doing what it had to do to cut costs.

Rick - your price made me feel real good - the Shelby, with all it's muscle and special oil, filters, etc etc came to only $1600 dating back 2 yrs. And it covers all regular maintenance service. Granted it was z-plan, but as much as Ford wants business now I'll bet Gary can negotiate!

I signed up for notices at http://www.fordwarrantys.com/ , waited till one of their special discounts came out in email, looked up what the price would be on a 7/75,000 Premium Care on my bird, then printed that out, took it to my local dealer and asked them to match it. They did. 20 minutes of paperwokr later and it was all set.

                Re: Extended Warranty

I extended my 04 last August, two weeks before the original warranty expired. My car at that time had 10K miles on it. I extended it with my Ford dealer till August of 2011 or 48K miles what ever comes first, at 0% deductable. My cost was $1800.00. I think it was money well spent considering the costs for major repairs on these cars and the peace of mind. Also the warranty is transferable if you sell, a big factor to get a good price, and if your car is stolen or totaled the remainder of the warranty can be cashed in. I could've bought more miles but I live in Northern Indiana and don't drive it in the Winter mostly becuase of the salt they put on the roads. So far this year I've put 4K miles on it, it's got 14K on it now so I don't think I'll go over on the miles. I wouldn't even consider any othe warranty but Ford. Other warranties that I have looked at don't pay till you pay the bill and send it to them, then they tell you how much, if any, they will pay. A big mess, stay with Ford.

                  Re: Extended Warranty

So if I buy the 7 year extended plan the clock for this plan actually starts from the purchase date of the new car (Dec. 2005) effectively giving me another 4 years (2012) of warranty (not counting the milage)? So in reality I'm really buying a 4 year plan from now (or Dec.).

Sorry to be so thick on this but I want to buy the most time I can for when my factory warranty runs out, which sounds like a 7 year plan with the milage appropriate for my use.

                    Re: Extended Warranty

Gary, Yes you are right, but you don't have to get the zero deductable. $50.00 or $100.00 deductable would drop the cost. And I think the max on the miles is 72K also. You can adjust the warranty in these ways that in turn adjusts the price. I went with the max miles, Zero deductable and 48K miles. Enough extra miles to drive out to the West Coast and back if I want to. Leroy

I,too, did this same thing...Printed it out, took to the local dealer and he said there's no way they can sell it for that...I said okay fine and started out the door...He said let me see that paper again...30 minutes later I had the extended warranty for the reduced price...He said I'm not making a dime on this and I said thanks and walked out with my extended warranty in hand...

I received notice from Ford that I could purchase extended warranty from them. I called to purchase and while the woman was taking information, she said that I really didn't need the plan I was considering since my mileage was low. I was able to get the same coverage for about $600 less than the brochure stated (my 2002 extended warranty expires in July 09) and I had 36,000 miles available. I currently have 24,000 miles. She isn't driven in wet weather or if salt is on the ground in the winter.
