Just got back from Chicago after celebrating my sister Mary Ellen's (you may have met her and her husband Art the Beach Boys get together) birthday (one of the g=big one's). Donna and I flew in Sat AM as a complete surprise. As part of the celebration we went to the city for dinner and a show. We saw Dirty Dancing which is in it's pre-Broadway run. We thought of all the wonderful memories from Lake Lurie and wonderful people we met.
The show is good, not great. Still holding out for Jersey Boys which will be in Atlanta in the spring. The second act was a little slow in places and the audience helped with some of the well known lines ... "Nobody puts baby in a corner" The cast was excellent, many were from ballet companies as the dancing was incredible. The lead as from Australia so sometimes his Jersey accent went "down under", but my he could dance. For you ladies, the women in the audience swooned when he took his shirt off:-)
Two members of the cast, not the leads, did the heavy lifting on the singing. You could hav e sworn Bill Medley was on stage at times.
Look for the show to hit Broadway with touring companies sure to follow.
