  • Questions regarding Interior Lights

My car has been at the dealer for the last two weeks having quite a few repairs done. One of the repairs was to the air conditioning system, which required dismantling the dash and it's various parts and pieces.

Tonight I drove it in the dark for the first time in months. Immediately I noticed that the light in the passenger foot area didn't come on when I opened the door. Hopefully that's an easy fix, because I know that was definitely working before I dropped the car off.

My car is a 2004. My questions are and I'm sorry if they are so stupid, but I just don't remember.

Does the gear shift area light up at night with the lights on? I can't remember, but it sure seems awful dark in that area now.

My dash where the gauges are located in the daylight is white. However tonight with the lights on, it was black with white numbers and green arms, yet when I was driving in a well lit area, I could barely see the gauges. I attempted to adjust the lights, however, the dial can't go any higher before turning on the lights in the foot area. Is this normal or could some of the lights on the dash not be working correctly.

I guess the moral of the story is drive the car more often at night, however, I really don't like driving at night and I try to stay home once I get there, especially once it gets dark outside.

Anyways, thanks for all your wonderful help as usual.

The following is form page 30 of your owners manual.

        Reading and dome lamps
The reading lamps are located in the
header trim panel. Press the control
next to the reading lamp to activate
        it.
        The reading lamp assembly also
        contains an overhead dome lamp.
This lamp is controlled by the
        center (OFF) control on the
assembly. The dome lamp will stay
on if the control is moved to the
driver side (ON) position. When the
control is in the passenger side (delay) position, the lamp will only come
on when a door is opened, or if the panel dimmer control is fully rotated
up. If the control is moved to the center position, the lamp will not come
        on at all.

Thank you all so much. I knew you all would come through for me. I'll get the dealer on the fixes that need to be made.

          Thank you again.

Just to let you know I had the instrument cluster, gear shift, heated seat switch, the + and - all replaced because I had no lights and no it wasn't the fuse or the light switch between the map lights. ... I also had to have the AC controls pull out because the car would not go to defrost... I never use it so I didnt check it out because the ac was working. I too had light shining on the floor and coming through temp sensor from the dash where it shouldn't have. So for you who don't drive in the rain or at night check these out.
