I think that pattern is called "engine turned." My ol' man once showed me how to do it with his drill press.

We used to do that in a machine shop on tool handles, to dress them up. We used a pumice paste and a wooden dowel in a drill press for that same design

Interesting looking at the photos - note where the airbag is on the Mustang. I can just see someone getting whacked in the face with that trim if the airbag went off.

All of the Trans Am cars had engine turned dashes in the 70's, and some in the 80's if I'm thinking right. My parents kept several Trans Ams around.

if you're getting into all the engine turned dashes - the 55-57 tbirds all had engine turned dash trim.
