Walter, That is exactly why I love my Retrobirds ....

I don't meet one on every corner. Folks pay big bucks for other domestic and foreign makes even in the six figures and I meet 2 or 3 of them everyday at least.

I've had mine a month and haven't seen any others. My car has just been a fair weather weekend ride though. It'll get some miles this week going to OC, Md about 380 miles round trip.

That's why I like them too. Unlike Mustangs and Corvettes, you don't see one at every other stoplight.

Re: Where have ALL the T-BIRDS gone?

I remember back in 2003 David James and his son Mark saw our Thunderbird just as we were coming into Johnson City TN for the Thunder Valley event and how thrilled they were to see our Thunderbird, it was the first Thunderbird they had ever seen on the road other than theirs. It really is amazing how rare these cars are, I see quite a few here in the DC area, I can go weeks without seeing any, and then see 3-4 in one day.You just never know when you're going to see another retro Bird on the road, you blink and you miss it.Yes there are Corvettes and Mustangs everywhere, I see them all the time, they are everywhere.Thunderbirds on the other hand are rare Birds indeed, you almost never see them.Maybe if some people would take them out of the garage every now and then we'd see more on the road. But then again, some of us are hoping that someone is saving our next Bird out there just for us.If my Bird ever poops out, I have no doubt there is another out there just like it with far fewer miles and less wear on it, just waiting for me.I kinda like driving the only retro Bird on the road, it makes me feel kinda special.

            RETROBIRD

Wife & I went from Austin to Rhome Texas last Friday to get our white hardtop from Dot 5Bird7. The entire trip up IH 35 and return we did not see another retrobird. The weather was fine for cruising. Oh yes we did see another Dot's 2002 Blue and when we went to lunch several drivers turned heads to see 2 retrobirds.

Re: Where have ALL the T-BIRDS gone?

Mine is not sitting still, I left West Palm Beach, Florida August 23, been to Mississippi, then back to Atlanta, then to Memphis, then to Oklahoma, parts of Route 66, then North Rim Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, 4 Corners Monument, Zion Natl Forrest, Las Vegas,NV for Desert Thunder II, then Palm Springs,CA then La Jolla,CA then San Juan Capistrano,CA then Venice Beach,CA then Covina,CA then Hollywood,CA then Beverly Hills,CA for the day today, now me and my Thunderbird are in Santa Barbara, CA. and still getting further and further from Florida every day. My 'Bird is going to be traveling till about the 15th of November before getting back to Florida. No one can say mine is tucked away in the garage. The top has been down every day of this trip. Hasn't seen a rain drop since leaving Atlanta on Sept 23. Was interesting seeing all the looks I got in Beverly Hills today, with all the expensive cars on the streets there, people were still looking at my Thunderbird and nodding approval or giving a thumbs up. Only saw one other there, it was on Rodeo Drive, Shiny Black and sporting it's hardtop and a very pretty and elegant lady. They looked good together.

Well I feel the same way about mine. I've made 2 trips to Texas and back since I got mine and with both trips I remember seeing only 1 other Retro Bird and that was going through Albuquerque,NM. I keep mine well maintained and serviced and love to drive it. As someone said every time I take it out there is someone going to make some remark as to what year and how beautiful it is. Ever since my first car which was a 57 Ford conv. I've owned some type of conv or t-top and this is the only one that gets the stares and comments where ever I go. Keep a smiling and Keep a driving.

Re: Where have ALL the T-BIRDS gone?

I see a few in Denville, NJ area. We drive ours to work and play and just turned over 50K recently. I've had 2 incidents requiring coil replacements so far and I'm missing again. The coil problems are impacting my "fun" since it requires another trip back to the Ford dealer every few months it seems. At the moment I'm shuttering and sputtering up hills and if I need some serious acceleration all I get is a couple of seconds of miss fires before the car takes off. I'll get this fixed again, and wait for another couple of months for the next recurrance. I love the car, but currently I'm frustrated that there is no permanent, one time fix it for good, solution for the coil problem.

Re: Where have ALL the T-BIRDS gone?

Suzanne, my new 04 EB, had 39,500k on her when bought her so I have had no problem driving her everyday and I am loving it. I have had her nearly a month and I think the odometer now reads 40,610. It would be much less without everyother weekend to Charlotte (360 miles round trip) but that is why I bought this one.

I did see 2 on my way to SouthPark ... Another EB and a TR.

She already had miles on her as she was a lease turn-in. So I don't feel guilty driving her: Not that I won't be just as anal about keeping her spiffy ... JMHO

Lucy, the merlot, is the garage queen with 11k on her.

Re: Where have ALL the T-BIRDS gone?

While we have at least 3 other Retros in our small little town, I normally don't see them that often.

This past week was kind of unique. On Thursday afternoon I went to Tulsa and saw a Torch Red 2002 in Wagoner, OK for sale by owner. On Friday I saw another Torch Red bird parked on the street in downtown Tahlequah. The on Saturday while goinf to a swap meet in Southwest Oklahoma I saw another Torch Red bird on I-40. Wow, birds on 3 days in a row.

I've driven thousands of miles on trips around the country without seeing a retro bird, so these sightings were very unusual. In fact I started a thread similar to this a few years ago.

Our car is not a daily driver, so it spends a lot of time in the garage, but you can bet I'm never going to miss an event becasue it will put some miles on her - that is what the car is for......driving!

Sorry Robert, real frustration is having the fix done and having to pay for it. Just be greatful your car is covered under the extended warranty, With 9 COP failures now behind me on my 02, the real fun would be driving into my Ford Service Dept and then leaving with as much money in my wallet as I had when I first got there. I would be thrilled to drive into my dealership and just say "Fix it and bill Ford".

My baby has 24,000 miles on her - purchased new in July 2002. I drive her every day the weather is good. No rain, snow, or salty roads for her. But I do drive her in the winter when the weather is good. We just put the hard top on, and the looks I got yesterday were amazing.

Don't see too many on the road here in northern NJ even though we know about 6 other owners in the immediate area. I guess they are garage queens, but I think of Little Red as a garage "princess".

There are quite a few in California. We have 36 birds in our NorCAL Retrobirds Club. I live in a town of 50,000 and I know of 8 retro birds there. As time goes on more will fall into the hands of the real retro fans. The rarer they become the better I like it!

That might slow down for a while since the exchange is about 20% now.

Around here most are headed for a winter nest. I am booked for an emission test tomorrow (required before getting it out next spring), ready to get the oil changed and may do it by this weekend. Snow flurries around here today and long range forecast is so it's time.
