Have a 04 Bird and have found at the lower edge of the top(below the rear glass where it meats the body) now a total of 3 staples. They are coming from in the car and appear to work there way to the outside with the up and down movement of the top. Any suggestions as to where they might be coming from? I plan on taking down the headliner and seeing whats going on inside there.

Re: Soft top question
Mostly all convertible tops, boots etc. have what is called 'tacking strips' at various points where it needs to be secured. Also very much used on boats and such. That is why most shops are called "tack shops" where tops and upholstery is done. The tacking strips of today are mostly a form of plastic where in the old days it was like a compressed roll of paper that looked like rope. Where the tacks go if on the outside, they use a tacking bead and once the tacks are in place, the bead is folded over and hides the tacks. Now with the new tacking strips being plastic, when it gets warm, it gets soft, and that may be alowing the tacks to come out when under strain of the pulling/tight material.
