    Re: Review and opinions

My 2003 tester with 25K miles in Mountain Shadow Gray looked like no other car on the road. In a good way.

It lured pistonheads with drop-dead looks and performance potential- and failed to deliver on anything other than exterior aesthetics.

I think these 2 comments are pretty accurate. These Thunderbirds are great looking cars! No, they're not performance powerhouses, but I never expected it to be. It's a great car on the highway. Drives easy and comfortably. You can cruise all day long at 80 MPH (more than the legal speed limit) with no effort at all. I'm happy with my Thunderbirds!

I checked sme of the reviews on other cars including the Lincoln LS and he seems to have a few good things and bad thing to say about all the cars tested.

        Re: Review and opinions

Read the article and comments. Agree with all your assessments but wonder why no one has commented about the lack of care that MSG received before it was put back on the market for people to try out. Some of the problems noted by the writer are very fixable - ill fitting top, squeaks and chirps and groans. At 25K I would have thought the previous owner would have utilized their basic warranty better. Maybe the sales company didn't know how to install the top, much less, make the adjustments to get it to fit right for good?
I find a lot of the complaints about it's power or lack of is because it doesn't "feel" like it's going fast or "sound" like it's going fast. Those of us who have cruised the freeways know how hard it is to keep the speed down to the speed limit unlss you use the cruise control.

Have to agree with you about the speed issue, Dot. I'm the poster boy for it at home this week.

            Re: Review and opinions

It seems to be like the author of this article thought he was going to be driving a Porsche with portholes. To my knowledge, Ford never even tried to market this car as a sports car, so I have no idea why this writer thinks it should be one. I've driven a '56 before and I find the overall experience similar.

I do not understood why this author complains about the sharing of the LS interior. When my radio, A/C, or whatever dies 30 years from now, it shouldn't be that difficult to get another one since I'll have a very large pool of spares to pull from; if such things were Thunderbird-only, it would be either difficult or impossible.

I bought the car because (a) it was stunning and (b) my mother wouldn't let me get a '56. I'll never forget the first time I drove her--I picked her up from the dealership and was heading home when I decided to pull into a grocery store parking lot because the bass was vibrating the entire car and I didn't know how to turn it down. When I looked up from reading the manual, a crowd of about a dozen people had gathered to look at the car. My boss's red Ferrari never once attracted that much attention.

I hardly ever drive her, but that's because I want to still be enjoying her 50 years from now. I'll be my turn to give the "I had one of those when I was younger" speech that has been given to me so many times by people who had the originals--except I'll still have mine.

              Re: Review and opinions

There's still a few owners around that have the bragging rights of saying they still have their t-bird 50 years later so that's a good indication that you have a chance of saying that, too, in 50 years, Andrew.

I think the article is correct about the shifting--at least if it is like mine. It is not consistently smooth, but maybe it is me.
