  • Instrument cluster quits after detailing

Update on friend's 03 Bird whose instrument cluster went out just after someone detailed the engine.

I talked with Ford service mgr today. He recommended that we get a mechanic with a probe and continuity testor and look for one of the following:

    1. bad fuseable link.
    2. blown fuse.
    3. wet relay.

Friend will arrange for this in next week or so.

I will keep group here posted.

Re: speedometer quit after engine was detailed
Don't these cars have a electronic speedometer? Check to make sure any relay under the hood or around transmission didn't get wet? Or check the book for a fuse location and make sure it didn't blow if it got wet. Just a thought, happened on my Acura TL once in hurricane rains, was a simple remove relay, dry off contacts, spray some WD 40 into the receiving location to dry out moisture and plug the relay back in. Not sure if these have any similar set-up or not.

This was my post from Oct 20. On your previous thread. Before paying a mechanic, I'd pull out my owners manual. It will tell you exactly where the relay is located, and where the fuse is. It could save you lots of time and $. When this happened to my Acura TL, it took mne about 5 minutes to look at the manual and locate the relayu and fuse locations. About 10 minutes to actually look at the fuse and pull the relay out and dry it off. Had WD 40 that will dry out any moisture. All total about 30 min and free.
