This clockspring problem seems more common then I would expect. What's going wrong? What kind of mileage did you have when they broke? Mine was just over 41K

It's not only an inconvenience for T-Bird owners, but other Ford products too. My daily driver is in the shop right now with the same problem, 10 years old with 77K miles. Not too long ago my neighbor was presented with the same opportunity to return to the Ford dealership with the airbag warning light. Since my daily is in the shop, I'm having more done than just the spring but, I believe to fix that will be around $280.

Well when you look inside the steering wheel and see the wire mess it's pretty obvious that the design team took turning the wheel as an after thought.
