Re: What's over the top in accessories?

This is always an interesting discussion because the thoughts run from one extreme to the other and everything in between. I'm not so much worried about something being over the top as I am people bluntly telling someone else that their car's mods are repulsive. Sometimes it would seem the better part of valor not to comment on another person's taste.

I've seen plenty of things done to our favorite car that I wouldn't do to mine, but I'd never tell the owner to their face that I didn't like it so I'm sure not going to write it here either. For that matter, I've seen some things done that I think are really pretty darn cool and if I had the talent or the guts I'd give it a try as well. Then there is the question of just how big of a copycat do I want to be.

The main mods I've done to my car are things that I think should have been options when I bought the car - chrome hood scoop, NM wheels and Thunderbird logo floor mats. I haven't put any emblems on the car where the V8 badges are on the 03s because I can't decide whether I'd like any of them better than I like the car without anything there even after seeing just about every possible badge there on other friends' cars.

Things I've seen and would seriously consider doing are the "chrome" rocker panels, Navigation System, homelink header, trunk light and Borlas. If any or all of them lowered the value of the car then so be it - the kids' inheritance just went down. I expect to have the car until it wears out and I get another or I die, which ever comes first, so collector value doesn't mean much to me.

I'm not going to do anything to mine at this point. I like it the way it is.

We added a Thunderbird script license plate frame. Why mess with perfection.

Re: What's over the top in accessories?

My like or dislike of mods has nothing to do with value / resale value. I've done what I like. Alot of the mods that I would not consider look very good on others cars, it's what they like or wanted. I bought the car for me, the value is how much I enjoy it. Any mods I've done are easily reversible if I or anyone else decided to take it back to original, however, if there WERE a mod I wanted that wasn'treversible, I'd still make it. It's my car, it's what I want to do with it that matters. I like it clean and simple, and that's only my opinion, everyone here or anywhere else has their own opinions on mods, politices, hairstyles and whatever else. That's what makes everyone unique and who they are, That's considered a personality, without it, we would be living in a Stepford Community. That's life. So for every mod I don't buy, there is a mod for someone else to cherish buying for themselves and me to see in passing. If we showed up at our Thunderbird events and everyones car was just like it left the showroom floor, that would get boring. Remember when cars actually changed from year to year, and you actually had lots of different options? Now cars change so little and everything is part of a "package". I just happen to like my 'Bird pretty much like she was.

We have to blame Henry Ford for mods.Remember the saying " You can have any color as long as it's Black ".
