Very interesting article. There were several points that he brought up that you just take for granted until he steers your eyes toward them. I would say that it was a very good and upbeat article and did not try to discredit the Bird for not a being a muscle bound race car

        Insightful article.

I sent Del and email telling him how much I enjoyed his thoughts.

"It's what seemsto be that counts." That, IMHO, is the most original & intellignet observation he makes, an observation applicable not just to the Retro but to just about everything else in life. Otherwise, he demonstrates that while driving the car is lotsa fun, reading an exegesis of its design makes me lean in the opposite direction (i.e., not a lotta fun). His explanations of the intersections of design lines are interesting in that they were not obvious to me but perhaps, at some lower level of my thinking, these connections (the A-pillar aiming toward the center of the front wheel, for example, or that the shape of the headleights matches that of the taillights) are what make the Retro so appealing to me. And perhaps to you. I admire the depth of history in his automotive perspective & his dedication to writing about car design, but he gets awfully academic & pedigogical when, for example, in discussing symmetry of the car, he compares & contrasts views left & right, front & rear, fore & aft. Whew. But then again, he is an academic. It's an honest view of the Retro, but I don't know if I can say he can be completely objective; he was a designer at FoMoCo from '63 to '68, you know.
              Thanks for posting it, Dot.

                Ahem.....

"Its nostalgic references to the highly regarded early Birds ensures a relatively indefinite appeal. Its appropriate soul guarantees even more lasting appeal. An ample amount of objective concinnity suggests that it will have relatively timeless appeal. Only time will tell, however, whether it has enough to earn classic status. "
