  • Why do we own these cars?

Every once in a while I ask myself why I have all of this money invested in such a personal extravagance as my Thunderbird. With the economy as shaky as it is, I should get one of the more practical green cars. It would also reduce my insurance premiums. But then I get into my T-Bird, put the top down and head up the highway. Today I got onto I-35 heading towards Oklahoma City and with a clear road ahead, took it up to 100 in nothing flat.
(If any OK Highway Patrol are reading this - I did back off to the 70 mph speed limit). But it was then that I reminded myself that I really like my car. I like it when I am at a light and someone pulls up next to me and gives me the thumbs up sign. My wife tells me it is a chick magnet car. But i know if I ever did pick one up, she would take off with my car and I'd be sitting on the side of the road. I will probably keep it till I am old and grey. Oh, I am already there. But hopefully I will keep it for my grandchildren to fight over, and until then just smile while I drive it and enjoy the seat warmer...

Yes, Rick. I agree. I also like to just look at the car. Still brings on that "big grin" factor. I also find it's value is not losing as fast as stock market is right now.

My condo neighbors ask me why I (single guy) need two cars (T-Bird & Caddy) . My answer "Because I can afford them" .

I am a crippled almost Blind old man. I wanted a baby Bird when I was young and could not afford one. This is not a 55-57 but in many ways better and the looks are great.

30 miles per gallon on the open road is better milage than any green car with an 8 cylinder will ever get. T-BIRDS are enviormentally FRIENDLY! Tell yourself you are saving the polar bear.

Because it's not a cookie cutter. It doesn't look like any other car on the road and that's what sets it apart. It gets noticed by everyone.

              DITTO!
I rarely see another on the road and they will become even fewer and fewer as the years pass!

My neighbors always commented on my Red bird. When I got the second yellow one, they seemed to not want to talk about my cars anymore.

I think that, they think I'm totally whacko, and they don't what to verify it by pursuing it in conversation.

It's a car with a lot of personality. I guess everyone that recognises that falls for it like we all did. I enjoy driving it every single day of the week. Even if it is only a few miles, it makes me happy.

I got it because I wanted it and I keep it because I love it! It doesn't have to make sense to anyone else (except maybe Rosetta and she loves it too so problem solved).

Linda & I still LOVE Texasbird. When I was looking at them on E-Bay & Cars.com, I kept telling myself it was frivilous and wasteful. Linda was the voice behind me who kept saying we can do this... go ahead... you've always wanted one, etc. I still felt guilty for awhile after the purchase, but she was right. It draws more positive comments and I've enjoyed it more than any other vehicle I've owned.
