  • Soft Cover Snap Problem

On my soft cover, the material around one of the snaps has torn such that the snap will not attach to the snap on the car. Is there a way to repair this? Would this be covered under a purchased Ford extended warranty?

Thanks, in advance, for the information.

    Brian,

I had the same problem. If you run it by the dealership, they can fix it in about 15 minutes. They have some machine that punches the snap back in. I don't know about the extended warranty because it happened to me just a few months after buying her new.

Brian...welcome to the 'Nest. Once you have that fixed, put some petroleum jelly or crayon on the snaps. This will make the snaps easier to remove and help to prevent future problems.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take it into the dealership to have them check on it and then use some jelly on the snaps.

Had the same problem with two different snaps, two different times. While pulling the cover off, the snaps stayed snapped together, bottom of the cover snap separated from the black top in the cover.
Fixed both easily with a little kit from the crafts or fabric store. Same size snaps,... they're even black in color. Don't remember, maybe 3 - 4 dollars for half dozen plus the little gizmos for striking into place.
Need to do the solid hammer hit assembly with a backup of cement floor or in my case, a solid steel vise.
It's very advisable to put a touch of lube on the snap ring as mentioned above.

Dealer will replace it if you have the extended warranty

That's a good idea with the petroleum jelly. I'll have to try that the next time I have the hardtop off. Sometimes I've noticed they are hard to snap on or snap off when using the tonneau cover.

I always keep a small travel size bar of soap in the center console of the car. I use a corner to slick up the snaps & on the plus side the smell of the soap keeps the car smelling good & you don't have to worry about it melting. This works great. I had a snap pull through my first cover shortly after I bought the car. The dealer replaced it with this one and the soap has kept all of the snaps in place. Of course, I read this tip here on TBN - so I'm just passing it on.

I keep a small, thin butter knife in the car. When I want to remove the boot, I gently put the knife in between the two halves of the snap and pry upward. It works great and doesn't require pulling on the boot material at all. I tried the lubricant idea, but it got dirty and rubbed off on the under side of the boot.
