  • Lost Wedding Ring

This may be the dumbest trick I have ever pulled ....But while replacing the hard top last nite I dropped my wedding ring into the soft top storage area of the Bird. The ring slid off of my finger and klinked it's way down to I don't know where.
Does anyone have any ideas as to how I might be able to get a better look down there? I sure would like to retrieve that ring

    Thanks, Bill Errickson

take out the spare tire, put some sissor blades under those black fastners that are holding the "fuzzy panels" and pry them out. remove the panel and you will see the area where the ring is probably sitting..
    good luck.. Jim

PS... leave the fastners out as you can use that space for more cloths storage for long trips.... just set the panel back in place once you find your ring..

The soft liner where the top goes down will come out. There are snaps and velcrow that will allow you to open up that lining and lift it up and out of the way. With the soft top up and the lining raised, you should be able to search most of the area, get a flashlight and small mirrors and good luck. You would have to take the Hartop back off, however, that should be a breeze compared to living with a lost wedding ring.

Hope you find it back Bill. If not it will make a great story in 30 or more years when car is body off restored by who knows who.

            Re: Lost Wedding Ring

This will not be easy.... with the top down.... remove the plastic panels (3) surrounding the shelf. You can remove the speakers (4 screws) and see and reach in to the area a lot. If that does not get you to your band of gold, you can detach the black boot well cover from the shelf surround and then you will have the ability to see and feel around in the area. There are 2 openings, one on each side, that open into a space that you can see but not reach without a magnet on a flex stalk or a tool used for retrieving dropped nuts and bolts.

Going in from the trunk is a good idea but you really have limited reachability from there.

Reminds me of the day when we were running late for church. Pam told me that her ring went into the bathroom drain. We left for church planning to get it out when we returned. So I take the trap apart and there's no sign of the ring. That's when she remembered that she might have left it on the night table. She owed me big time for that one.

I always removed my ring whenever i worked on cars, but on the same note i have had my ring save my finger whenever i dropped a heavy object on my hand. I did have to have it cut off because it was smashed flat.
                    Good luck finding your ring.

If you heard it klink all the way down, it's got to be in the area Lonestar refers to.....and that's the only area your hands would be in during installation. What a bummer. Hope it can't fall out through the bottom of the frame or move around when you're driving.

If this had happened to me, these guys never would let me hear the end of it.......

I'd probably try a vacuum cleaner with a new bag in it. I don't think gold, silver or platinum are magnetized.

                          Re: Lost Wedding Ring

I lost my wedding band about ten years ago. I looked everywhere, sifted through the trash, searched for hours. Then I remembered I took it off and put it in my shirt pocket when I was playing frisbee with my GS Mix Nicky. Took a flashlight out there and poked around in the grass, no ring. Next morning, poked around some more with the morning sun shining and saw the gold glint in the grass, ring FOUND! Whew!

Bill, I hope you find yours, I know what it's like to lose it and it's no fun at all.

Shouldn't have fallen off in the first place if fitted properly in the nose!
