Here's to 5000 more posts and a bunch of caravans in the future!
Just a little personal "Post" history from 2002, for our new members.

I joined TBN in the first couple of days it started in July... but

I didn't post until late October!!
        Nope, not ME...

I let Dot do my talking! Even as our first caravan was being planned to Destination 2002, in FL.

That all changed when one of my new Caravan Buddies "called" me on it over our first dinner together. It took me a couple of months to get comfortable with it, but it's hard to shut me up now!

So, you see, I understand completely that new members find it difficult sometimes to speak up, all I can say is

Come on in, the water's fine!

We're waiting to hear from YOU!!

It's too bad your posts can't talk, Sal, because that Texas accent of yours is the bomb diggity! You are a class act for sure!

Well the girl drives a T-bird just a little too fast
She don't like the brakes and just loves the gas
Well she burns thru a tank almost every day
She makes my heart beat like its run away

Yes she's Thunderbird Sally just a waiting for the break of day

                  ROCK ON SALLY

I do have to say though I am a little jealous it seems like most of the TBN group is back home (Texas) or on the East Coast and you guys know each other so well. Kinda making me home sick, but where are all the West Coast Birds Come out where ever you are, I wanna play too. I know there seems to be a handful of us that post messages, but not too many. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to get the West Coast more involved? Or is there just not a lot of us out here? Maybe the West Coast is involved and I don't see it yet so I might have to be apologizing for my post HA!

Re: A Milestone Post for me!

                      Jennifer,

Here are mey suggestions for what they are worth. Don't get discouraged... Keep posting and sending PM's to members in your vicinity. Plan gatherings that others will enjoy... dinners at a local restaurant, publicize car shows that others will want to attend. Attend events planned by other members in your area. California, like Texas is a huge area, so you may want to focus on your region. It definitely takes the dedication of members like Sally, Dot, Birdwings and countless others who keep the interest alive.

What's going to be interesting is seeing whether interest grows or drops as the retro-bird ages. As we know, the cars are now anywhere from 4 to 8 years in age and growing older each day. It is anybody's guess whether they will bottom out in popularity and value anytime soon, or if interest will keep them alive well into the future. We already know the Retro-Bird has held its value better than its sister, the Lincoln LS, but where they go from here, no one knows.

When I first became OCD over the original Little Birds, they were listing in Hemmings for 2500.00 unrestored to 12K restored to new condition. Look where they are today at 30 to 70k or higher. Wish I had insisted on acquiring one of them 25 years ago.

Personally, I think the retro-birds will get to that point some day; maybe after my son has had to peel my cold dead hands off of the steering wheel. I tell him it is in my will that Texasbird will be my coffin, and that I have purchased the extra plots for it to be buried in. He says his compromise is to have my ashes hermetically sealed in the arm rest so I go wherever the car goes... even to the crusher.

Re: A Milestone Post for me!

Jennifer, when TBN first started it seemed everyone lived in the Atlanta, GA area. That was where all the action was!

As TBN grew, the action started to branch out, but it was easy to attend most of them, because there weren't that many meets each year. A couple of years ago, the CA Chapter picked up momentum.

I haven't looked, but have you signed on as a member of the CA Chapter? If so, keep an eye on that Forum. The Chapters are listed near the bottom of the Forums Page.

Take it one step further, as James said, and post a time and a place for a meet. Someone has to take the initiative, why not you?

I hit 2,000 posts and then Birdwings cleaned up the site the next day dropping me back below 2,000.

Well this post puts at that 2,000 post plateau once again.
