Hi, I have a 2002 and would like to increase the HP like the later T-birds. Is there a chip that I could buy? Thanks

Re: Increase HP for the bird
Hi Dave, lots of discussion here on increased horse power for your Bird, just enter a key word for what your searching for into the search engine above and many threads will pop up to help you.
Here's one that might help you with your question:

You might want to call the previous owner or your local Ford service dept. to see if this 2002 update has been done on your car yet. If it hasn't you will notice a consider difference in the performance of your car. Just give Ford your vin # of your car and ask them for a repair record.
Congratulations on your new Thunderbird, enjoy!Last edited by Borla Babe; Dec 2, 2008, 01:25 AM.

Re: Increase HP for the bird
Hi Borla Babe,
The PCM on my 02 T-Bird was updated by the previous owner on 07/12/06. Do you suppose a computer update would still be beneficial to my HP output, or do I already have the latest greatest version of the programming? I have read the thread reference, but did not notice any specific computer update dates.
Will add that mine is already no because I can chirp 'em for sure in second. Is there more that I can expect yet?

Re: Increase HP for the bird
Sounds like the computer updates are already done on your car Lindy, there is a considerable difference in the performance of the car after the updates, which you would not notice being the second owner.
As suggested above, you can always check with a Ford service dept, give them the
vin # of the car, and they can tell you exactly whats been done if the work was done by Ford.
You can add more performance to the car by adding a Borla system and CAI, if your interested. The search engine will help you with more information on those products.
Enjoy your car!

Re: Increase HP for the bird
Dave, You can add HP, TQ and overall better performance by and a performance exhaust, CAI and an SCT custom tune. PM Blue Heaven, he has a 2002 that he has done this to and I am sure he will share to results with you.http://www.thunderbirdnest.com/membe...00&ppuser=1190

Re: Increase HP for the bird
Dave,
As Bruce stated, I have done the Trifecta of performance mods on my '02. The first was the Borla exhaust, closely followed by a low restriction CAI (Cold Air Induction) and topped off with the SCT XCal2 reflash. I will tell you that she is a completely different car then Ford allowed her to be! Overall performance is dramatically improved, including the "where am I supposed to shift?" transmission lags the '02s are famous for. In fact, if you're into it, I get a solid chirp out of 2nd and 3rd shifts when going through it manually.
I installed the exhaust and CAI myself, had the XCal professionaly done. I've got $1650 into it.
I highly recommend these changes. Please feel free to PM me with any questions.

My 02 T-Bird has only 13,500 mi. and its' previous owner (a wonderful gent) just pampered the daylights out of her, and said "she never saw a winter"--and it shows! He was so kind to leave me with all of its' maintenance records/invoices and window sticker, together with the brochure binder for the 2002 (and the 2004 brochure as well). The PCM was updated by the local Ford dealer, as the invoice states:
"Customer states idle stays at 1,000 RPM. CK out for repairs. Ck out for codes, ck oasis, reprogram PCM and road test. OK at this time. 07/12/06"
Like you indicated, presumably, I am already enjoying the enhanced performance--cause she goes! No? Well, anyway, for now it is tucked away in the garage while we are enjoying a forecast down near zero F. tonite, and the frosted Wisconsin landscape that Mother nature brought our way these past days; that, as I pick up where the previous owner left off.
