  • 1957 Thunderbird Retro-Rod

Next Friday, Lot #954.1, a '57 Black Tbird with a DOHC Ford Cobra engine, a 5 speed manual Tranny and a gorgeous saddle tan leather interior is on the block at Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale Auction. It is NICE!
I'm guessing $100,000 as the selling price when the hammer goes down. I wonder what they'll be doing with our '02-'05s fifty years from now.

Check it out on www.barrett-Jackson.com. It is shown on Friday's list of consignments. So wish I could win the powerball lottery between now and then.

I'm thinking way less than that, Cal. non-stock 57 tbirds are a very hard sell except to the right person.

Looks like it would look good with a matching black and saddle 03 or the black and sand.

Dot, I agree with you in general, but this car is in tune with the times, retro-rods are hot right now. Have you been watching these B-J auctions? Retro-rods are selling very well indeed.

Actually I didn't care for the retro-rod, but along with Brian, my mouth did drool over the #1 1955 Bird. Have seen this Bird numerous times in several periodicals I own. Hope you win the lottery, Brian (and give me a ride!).

OK, I give up. Lot #1295 tops the retro '57. But since it is being auctioned off on Saturday night, they expect BIG BUCKS. The '57 may actually be affordable and need I say driveable. The Number 1 production 100 point '55 would be a Trailer Queen, for sure. I'd be afraid to take it on the road for fear of a stone chip or worse. But the '57 could be a daily driver, like my '05, Annie.

Cal...if I had the bucks to buy the #1 '55, I'd drive it. That's just me. I would NEVER buy a car to be a garage queen...again, just not my style. If I paid the bucks for the car, then why in the h-e-doublehockeysticks would I let someone else reap the benefit of enjoying the car's charms.

I'd buy the '55...drive it daily to work...and if something happened, then at least it happened while I had a smile on my face...BUT AGAIN, that's just my style.

I guess the BJ will tell us if the rich still have money to burn. Was there not a post from someone who said the #1 Thunderbird in person was extremely nice but not a Mentor restored Bird? However, being #1 I will predict 2.2M. This time last year I would have said 3M.

#1 can be restored if something happens to it. It's been restored before. but, to me, it would be a garage queen.

have been watching the auction.....everything seems to be selling for less than last yr....my guess for #1...less than a million.

Frank, I agree, prices seem to be lower than in previous years. There was a beautiful '61 Chrysler Imperial convertible - I think there were less than 700 made - it went for under 100k. The thing was immaculate. Had to cost the guy 2 – 250,000 to restore it. Heck the chrome the guy had to have done must have cost him 50,000.

I thought that the retro-rod was great and very well done. If there was more money in my account than there is, it would have found a home here in my garage
