Wire Wheels

Do any of you guys or gals out there have the Dayton Wire Wheels on your bird? If so, your opinions would be appreciated. I know they are a pain to clean, but I could accept that...it would be part of my therapy (LOL). I'm also concerned with their quality and would they take the standard 235/50/17 tire?

I have them on a 2003 Red and a 2005 Inca and have not had any issues. In fact the only issue is if you don't have the patience to clean them then don't get them.

I don't have the Dayton wheels, but I have a set of Zenith wire wheels which were supplied from Motorspot in California. They look like the original Kelsey-Hayes style, and I love them. Check my gallery, and you will get an idea of what they look like. The wheels take the OEM tire size for our T-birds.

When it comes to cleaning, yes it sometimes takes time, but the results are worth it. Also use a leaf blower (yes a leaf blower) to dry the wheels to avoid any left over moisture which will result in surface rust.

The wheels were the best add-on I got for my T-Bird, and believe me, the list is growing.

I love the look of the wire wheels on the new Birds. If I ever get tired of my Neiman-Marcus wheels, I'll get wires.

I would love to someday purchase wire wheels for my black bird....I've seen Bruce's wheels and I can tell you that they are truly magnificent! He's also got the trophies to back that up.

Ken, Dayton wires are great, they will really set your car apart from other t-birds. As for cleaning lets just say I'm glad I'm retired.

I love my Daytons! I have a photo in my Gallery with the Daytons, plus photos with the original wheels.

I love the Zeniths since they look like the original Kelsey-Hayes wheels. I am surprised more TBN members don't prefer them because of their heritage.

Claude, I agree with you, I like the look of the Zenith, I like the center cap and spinner. But the Daytons are extremely nice also. When it comes to others Bird's either one looks great, but if I were buying for myself, I think I would have to go with the Zenith.

Inner tubes required on the Zeniths?

I don't think you have to run inner tubes on the Daytons.

I do not run tubes on my Daytons and they have been fine since '03.

Yes, inner tubes are required for the Zeniths. Knock on wood, I have had no problems with the inner tubes, though I was initially quite concerned.

It is a real plus for the Daytons if they do not require inner tubes. I think both wheel styles look awesome on our retrobirds, but for me, the '50s styling of the Zenith wires was the deciding factor for me.
