Glad I didn't order one of these, almost did. I thought they were to be shipped months ago. Watching here it seems like it keeps getting pushed out. I simply didn't like the proportion of them. Needed to be wider and not as deep in my opinion. Looked like a Surco rack for the Miata, Z3-4 that had only had the mounting feet extended to match the width of the Thunderbird trunk.
Last word from Aaron (Jan 9th) was that they were in the final stage of production. Feet had been installed on the first unit and all that remains is some polishing. Shipments should be starting soon. This has been a long wait since they were originally due at Thanksgiving. On the other hand, our order has kept an American shop in operation when other work for them has slowed. You've got to feel good about that.
I think there's something fishy going on here. I didn't order one becuase I wasn't convinced by the sales pitch how sturdy these racks are and if they leave marks on the paint like the hard top does. I thought I would wait and hear all the reviews from other TBNers that bought the first batch. What's it been, about 4 months now since he sold the first 400 I think, and hasn't shipped one yet? I would be demanding my money back. Leroy
I also must have received the same email that gene received on January 9th.
The last line in the email states that shipping should begin next week (which should have been the week of the 12th which didn't happen. I haven't even received a tracking number which was stated in his email also.
I don't have a problem with this. I have ordered one and am waiting for it to be finished and be delivered. It's not like I have to have it tomorrow. Like I said earlier, when I get it I will post pics of how to install it. Until then I'll wait till I receive it. This company has been reliable in the past and I'll just sit tight.

AMEN - American made, and Aaron has even provided us with photos of the racks in production

Amen, again. Aaron has been keeping us updated, and in my opinion, he isn't going to ship out anything that isn't absolutely perfect. He values our input, the Retro Bird, and in order for him to stay in business, his products must meet our high standards.

Johnny,
I think some of the TBN members are considering this rack as a means to secure a flat tire since some members have pointed out that there is not enough room inside the trunk for a full size tire. I have never had a flat on my retro but a rack might make sense in such a situation.
I do not think putting a tire on this track is a good idea.
Unless you do not care about trunk finish and possible
dings from weight and shifting of the rack..
My thoughts..
Like anything that is offered some will enjoy the look and
others will be disappointed ..
Those of you who buy it I hope it is the look you like
and hope that quality of product meets your needs,,
I don't think the rack has been been properly tested before putting it on the market. Arron says it can be used to haul a flat tire but then he says the maximum weight for the rack is 50lbs. I'm guessing a 17" wheel with a tire on it weighs more than 50lbs. The thing that nixed me on the rack was when one of our TBNers asked Arron if it would fit in the trunk when not in use and He said no but that would've been a big plus if it did. Shouldn't that have been one of the primary design features? Leroy
I bought one, but I plan to use it on a very limited basis. If I ever decide to go on an extended trip, it could come in handy for some extra luggage. I doubt that you'll see anyone else offering such a rack and this may be the only opportunity to get one. That's why I decided to get one now.
just a interceding word here - Contrary to popular opinions, the tire well in our T-birds will hold our stock wheel AND tire quite well. photos and discussion on another thread. That said,
I'm in agreement with 007Cruiser - this may be the last time a rack is offered for a long time to come and there are owners that do want a rack. It's taken 7 years for anyone to even offer to build one for the tbird. A wait of 2 months or 4 months or even 6 months is a small time to wait for a NEW product to finish production. I have no doubt that it will be available from Thunderbird Concepts.
I've waited for over 6 months for just a small diecast to make it to market after first reports that it would be ready 6 months earlier - production problems do happen.
Seems like Aaron should chime in here. Explain what's going on himself. Although I haven't ordered a trunk rack, I have ordered from him several times before with nothing less than exceptional results. But I was truly expecting to see him update here. Not only for those waiting on their trunk racks, but for all the others that have or will order from him in the future.
