haven't been on line in a while took my 2002 bird to dealership to once and for all eliminate water leaking problem on drivers side. we are experiencing very cold weather here on the jersey shore and the leather seats were getting damp then very very cold. brought it to local lincoln mercury dealer who kept it for 3 weeks replaced all weatherstripping and guess what still leaks! to be fair alot less and the top does not creak anymore over rougher roads. Cost about 850.00 parts and labor. it will be going back to the dealer again my wife and I will lick this problem! Still love the car will keep all informed!

Phillip, Click on the "Search" button above, and enter "leaking hardtop."
Just read thru the threads, and make a list of the things others have done to try to stop the leaks. Maybe you'l find one that works for your Bird.
Both windows on CARTOY leak when I use the hand held high pressure at the car wash. I just always make sure I have a microfiber towel readily available!

Re: update on leaking hardtop
I drove my bird in the rain yesterday with the hard top on for the first time. It was great! Not a drop, traction control felt secure. defrost worked perfectly, winshield wipers cleared nicely. I put the top on with 3/8ths open foam weather stripping. Safe, silent secure - what more could you want

Re: update on leaking hardtop
Phillip,
I had a leak problem at both windows where the windshield meets the side window. It started with a slow drip when the car was new and grew to a much larger problem within the first 6 months. I tried several experiments but I have basically solved my particular problem with a $4. fix. If you have your covertible top down it takes about 3 minutes to take care of both driver and passenger side front corners. Depending on quality of material I use I can get at least two years reliable leak free service before I spend another $4 and 3 minutes.
I will try to post a couple pictures showing my fix sometime this week-end.Last edited by Vintage Merlot; Jan 24, 2009, 11:43 AM.
