Mike, you old heart breaker! Still getting notes in Jr High. HA. We were dating the teachers back in the 40's.

          Hi there,

          "54", well, who knows?

Douglas Adams believed the number 42 to be the funniest of all two figure numbers, - apparently.

It goes on to say that if the true question to that answer was ever found, the whole universe would totally disapear in an instant and be replaced with something even more confusing. It then says, on second thoughts maybe that has already happened!

I read all that stuff when I was at art college in Lancashire years back and honestly, I've never been the same since. A bit like watching Monty Python's or Spike Milligan. Excellent British humor I think.

          All the best, Gordon.

I don't think I've ever laughed so hard and out loud on a thread as I have on this one!

Well Bob, that either means you were too old in school, or the teachers were too young

Say Hi to Norma for us and hope to see you soon!

Re: A curious mind wants to know.

                Hi there,
Just about to leave work and climb into FLYAWAY to drive home.

On the LOL thing. I always thought it stood for laugh out loud. However, since there is another favorite possible,(lots of love). Why not combine the two. It might be LOVE OUT LOUD. Sounds good to me.

                Gordon.

p.s. I know this is way off the original subject but the mention of Spike Milligan reminds me of one his great but extremely crazy sketches off one of his experimental type Q half hour comedy sketch shows.

It's the famous Jehovah's Witness boxer where he climbs in to the ring, already with black eyes and his hands tied behind his back. See, most JW's are pacifists. The sight of him bouncing around the ring trying to avoid being hit by this really big scary looking boxer.

I need to look him up and see if any of that stuff is available.

                Tickles me anyway.....Gordon.

No one answered this (way back when), so I thought I'd give it a shot. It comes from "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy". From Wikipedia:

"In the first novel and radio series, a group of hyper-intelligent pan-dimensional beings demand to learn the Ultimate Answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, The Universe, and Everything from the supercomputer, Deep Thought, specially built for this purpose. It takes Deep Thought 7½ million years to compute and check the answer, which turns out to be 42. The Ultimate Question itself is unknown".

There are other variations, but this is the answer I give when someone asks an equally obtuse question.

                      Howzat?

BTW, the original LOL came from Herb Caen (look him up) he referred to his columns--LOL is "little old lady".

Yes 42 would be the answer. In Genesis didn't God originally create the universe for two==Adam and Eve!

Maybe so, but no one puts "little old lady" implying laughter in abbreviated text!

'Way back before the www and LOL, OMG, etc., we used the term "lobble", or LOBL, for "little old blue-haired ladies". Doesn't seem quite so amusing at our current age...
