I did look him up. And down. I saw him walking down the sidewalk on Market Street one evening many years ago. Neatly dressed in a brown suit & he had a smile on his face. I read his column with great pleasure & liked his writing style & humor so much I read all of his books (about 5 or 6), too. He really was Mr. San Francisco. (3 book titles I remember: Don't Call It Frisco; San Francisco, Say It Isn't So; Baghdad by the Bay. The rest I've forgotten.) His equivalent in Chicago was Mike Royko, & here in Chapel Hill it was a dwarf named Billy Arthur, who ran a hobby shop. All 3 were engaging columnists, now departed. ---Will
